Looking at changing a grand prix from a 15" L7 to two 9510-4's. The amp is a kicker 1000.1. The kicker L7 is ported and in a box I guessed to be 3cf. It is under the rear deck and does not come behind it at all. Using kickers rec. tuning I modeled it and the 2 9500's. I found that the L7 is louder but doesn't go as low. If I increase the power to the MTX's they can get just as loud . Does anyone have a thought about this? Are the 9500s a upgrade over an L7? I have never heard a L7 but will hear this install on Friday. I'm just trying to get a better idea what to expect.

What do you think, and why?

Try it and see how you like it. Personally I think the 9500s are far better than the L7s for what I would use them for, but it all depends on the individual user. It appears you already have the 9500s, so why not just try the L7. Simple as that.

Yes i didnt get this either, you said you have an l7 in your grand prix and want to switch to 9510's in your first sentence, but your last sentence says you have never heard a l7 and your sig says you have 2 9500's collecting dust, just wanted to make sure what you have and what you want, either way you wont hear much difference in output but i think the mtx's will have a little more clearity

Sorry about my wording. The grand prix is not mine. It is a customer of mine. He said that the place that installed his system built the box for him because the one that he had didn't fit in his trunk. I think they used kickers smallest ported box size. The kicker seems to like a 6cf box. In the smaller box it peaks at around 50hz+.

Listened to the car, I'm not impressed. The box looked slapped together. Box and port face back and the box seals up the trunk. It didn't sound good at all.

But he likes it! Lol

Build a new box for the L7. More volume.

i went from 2 15" l7's to 2 12" mtx 9500 12's in there recommended ported boxes on a kicker zx1500.1 and the mtx's i found were better all around. they had ALOT better sq and got damn loud. id take the mtx's

I think your right. The L7 isn't mine though. Also the mtx is in a 5cf box.

5 cf for both or a piece? lol . the mtx 9500 is a very durable subwoofer. i loved mine. if i had enough power to actually use them the right way, i would have kept them.

Arg! The kicker is in a 5cf box. Not the mtx. I had guessed that it was 3 in the first post.

Sorry this is the second time I've posted confusing stuff on this thread.
