OMG THAT IS SICK!

How does it affect sound?

Positively or negatively?

Is it bad for subs to play like that?

Even if it has cancellation issues, who cares? You gotta appreciate the craftsmanship and ingenuity that goes into those spinning enclosures.

Agreed.

It uses copper rings as electrodes with spring loaded brushes.

It's also not a gimmick to sell drivers, it's called welcome to the world of show vehicles.

Shows design and ingenuity.

It's the same concept that's been used in steering wheels for 60+ years.

it has been in use longer than that. the most common name is a (slip ring), or the lesser known term ( rotary joint). they work really well with ac voltage, and radio frequencies which they are used in self pointing self stabilized satellite antennas. when used for dc pass the brushes wear out much faster, and you should look for a rebuild able one if that is your need.

they are very simple, i used to build them for under water rov's at oceaneering, and used now in satellite communications.

google slip rings

nice little illustration on wiki and places to buy them of course

No, the steering wheel spring would not work as it would have to at some turn spin the other way. These can spin in one direction FOREVER without stopping. :)

And even if you can make it work, making it work with ZERO feedback into the speakers, that is the hard part.
