so i went to the grocery store about 10 mins ago. truck was fine there. on the way home my truck wouldnt stop accelerating. i have to literally push the brake down as hard as i can and then it starts burning out. when i got home, as much as i didnt want to, i slammed it in park and shut my truck off. i have absolutely no idea what in the hell is going on. If anyone has ANY information on this please post anything. Im really hoping it something small but with my luck i know it will be expensive.

Check the throttle at the engine?

Trans problems?

Do any check engine lights come on?

Throttle...

What year S-10? More than likely the throttle position sensor needs to be replaced.

tps sensor...or a huge vacuum leak

A tps will not cause such a high idle to even remotely let the rear tires to start burning out.

What engine do you have? 2.2 or 4.3?

Either it's a huge vac leak like an intake gasket or the throttle cable is stuck.

Saw the title and thought, wow that's a first. The ones I've driven won't accelerate.

Did you check to make sure the linkage/pedal isn't binding somewhere?

Literally lol'd at that haha

Why didn't you just slip it in Neutral and apply the brake to stop? It sounds like the throttle is stuck wide open, check the pedal and linkage.

throttle cable.

why would you slam it into park... why wouldnt you just shut it off with it in drive... then place it into park once it stopped moving?

I'm with you guys on the don't slam it into park thing, but it sounds like he was shittin bricks and did something really fast...just a thought...

happend to me a little over a year ago.. i went to over take a car on the interstate and i took my foot off the pedal and my 5.4 liter was wide open.. i watched my speed shooting up .. i got to about 90 before i cut her off.. shifted in to neutral.. and coasted almost a mile to the next exit.. then came to rest at a gas station. popped the hood, fooled with the intake got it to close a bit,

drove to the local parts house.. got some cleaner and more return springs , could not get it fixed.. mind you i work at a wrecker company but im too hard headed..

anyway.. i got some paper clips and a few of my towing bizz cards. and like MC giever i rigged some shit up to get my navi home,

My cable on my old Taurus was sticking once and while on the freeway it broke. I had to pull the speaker cable from the amp to the front out, and rig up a little pulley so I could have some sort of throttle until I was fast enough to use the cruise control. That was a bitch.

well putting it in nutral first is a bad idea too.. it will cause the motor to redline berfore you turn it off.. best thing to do is turn it off while in gear,.,.

Pretty sure my car won't even allow the engine to be turned off while engaged in a drive gear.

That said, I agree with Sean.

It will, however, assuming all is mechanically and electrically sound, you can not start the car in any gear.

You can turn any car off while in gear. It's a safety issue if not such as what would happen if your accelerator stuck.

I can't, it's been sitting in my drive for a few weeks broke down :P

I was thinking it wouldn't shut off in gear, but it's been a while since we'd messed with it so I could be wrong.

It will shut off in any gear but only start in park or neutral if it is a automatic. I would say the throttle stuck open for some reason being you didnt get a check engine light.
