Posted February 3, 200619 yr From time to time I come across old drivers. A lot of which are so old, finding listed t/s parameters is impossible. So I have started the search for a way to test for t/s parameters myself. Which lead me to parts express and the woofer tester 2. Anybody had any experience with this thing ? How accurate are the measurements it provides ? Is there any other cheaper more accurate way to test t/s parameters ? Any help would be much appreciated.here's a link to the woofer tester 2. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.c...tnumber=390-802
February 3, 200619 yr I've never used it...but from what I remember reading over in SIN, it isn't horribly accurate, and even then it's already only marginally good performance depends greatly upon the quality of your sound card.
February 3, 200619 yr Here is a way to test for the main T/S parameters with basically a DMM and a resistor:http://sound.westhost.com/tsp.htmFrom what I hear, you can use a shareware tone generator for your pc to get the required inputs aswell.Though, I think this is kinda funny:Please note that the process described here had an error (corrected 12 Dec 2006),There's an error in the update about the previous error....LOLProofreading FTW !!
February 3, 200619 yr Author Thanks man. There are a couple on there. But I still got several that aren't I told you I'm an old bass head man I'm thinking of building a Wicked One using an old pair of power acoustic 8's that I picked up at yard sale for $1. 4ohm Single voice coil ( coils read 3.87, and 3.93 ) 150w rms. I have everything needed to test like the link squeak posted. I think I'm gonna give it a whirl and see what I come up with. The enclosure is large enough for me to be able to play with the volume of the sealed chamber in the rear. So we'll see how it all works out. Thanks guys Edited February 3, 200619 yr by ramos
February 3, 200619 yr Author Should be fun to say the least. Hopefully I'll get to start on it this weekend. Supposed to rain though, and my only way of hauling full sheets is exposed to the weather. We'll see though.
February 4, 200619 yr Now that I'm out of that deal with Mr. Loki, I think I might just keep those four Coustic 8's I have and build a WO for them. If I built the smaller sized enclosure and ran all 4 in an isobaric configuration, I bet I could fit 'er in my trunk
February 4, 200619 yr Author I want to make a WO for my e8a. But i suk at teh maths<{POST_SNAPBACK}>as long as you stay 36" long and between 24"-36"wide there really isn't much math except for playing connect the dots. Once you get the able saw set for the angle. You can leave it for every other piece.
February 4, 200619 yr so very true, they are rather easy to construct, wish i had the wood to finsih mine.
February 4, 200619 yr Author so very true, they are rather easy to construct, wish i had the wood to finsih mine.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>It's not too easy if your table saw won't go past 45 degrees But not difficult, just a little more time consuming. I'll hopefully get some pics up later tonight. Caue I'm a getting there
February 5, 200619 yr Author its 1/8" off but the cuts are straight<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I hadd one to many beers too think straight when I typed that. Any angle over 45 can be flipped over and cut the opposite way. I'm working on uploading some pictures right now. D@mn cable doesn't want to cooperate
February 6, 200619 yr Author here we go. need a little less beer in the formula for this one Getting there, predrilling this many holes is a pita.
February 6, 200619 yr Looks good, and now we know you can draw straight lines...either that or you are putting some odd cult symbols all over your box.
February 6, 200619 yr Author Brad nailer> youlookin good so far<{POST_SNAPBACK}>It's more fun to drill 14,000 little tiny holes while your drinking anyway. I have a reason Edited February 7, 200619 yr by ramos
