I currently have a Kenwood KDC-248u head unit and I think I want to upgrade it to something a lot better. Not exactly sure what hu I want so I am looking for some suggestions.

Budget is $400 but I definitely would like to get something cheaper if I can.

Thanks

tell us more about your current system, install, etc. also what are your plans in the future? active front stage, etc?

for example. you can get a nice, active capable, headunit pretty cheap (~150) if you willing to buy used.

What features do you want/need?

Pioneer has good choices.

My system right now is 4 Memphis PR 6.5 2way components and pretty soon a 12 Icon on an AQ1200D amp.

The next thing I am doing is getting something like a Sundown 50.4 for the front stage, and then replacing the HU.

I don't exactly know what the difference is between active/passive setups so maybe you guys could enlighten me on what would benefit my system most.

Forgot to add the main features I want.. I definitely want USB hook up to play with ipod, and besides that i just want it to perform better than the Kenwood that I have now.

Also I read a little about active/passive setups and it sounds like passive would be best for my setup, correct me if I'm wrong.

The newer Kenwood x995 (?) looks pretty promising. I'm thinking about going with that. Has usb and iPod and everything. Granted, the prs880 is an extremely nice receiver, but iPod is extra. So on

Pretty sure the x995 is a single din.

The Kenwood x995 looks really nice, especially for the price. Anyone know of anything can compete with this one for the cost?

It's supposed to be a competitor for the alpine cda117. One thing to remember is that the cda117 comes with pretty basic functions as far as eq goes, unless you buy the imprint addon

Whereas the Kenwood has pretty much what the imprint does built in. Along with hd radio and Bluetooth. Butttt, some people swear by the imprint. I've never heard it before so I Don't have any input for that.

I still like clarion for the money.
