Posted December 9, 201113 yr Got my new Fi bl 12 with a flatwind coil. i had it hooked up to a pioneer 2 ohm amp at like 600 rms. it was making a strange sound that i couldnt detect. maybe the tinsels hitting the cone? but it wasnt flexing very much. it is a dual 2 ohm voice coil btw. December 9, 201113 yr Author sorry i wish i knew how to explain it better. i think the link works now if that can help. it sounds like it was reaching its limits but i have seen bl 12s flex twice what mine was at the point it starting making this sound.

December 9, 201113 yr Author the only time i have played them was free air. how long and to what tone should it sit free air on
December 9, 201113 yr the only time i have played them was free air. how long and to what tone should it sit free air onDepends on volume, amp setting. Not very long they bottom out and then make funny noises.
December 9, 201113 yr Author is that what i might be hearing then. will they eventualy flex more or are they at their mechanical limits
December 9, 201113 yr They are going to make a small noise free air. Its the mechanical noise a woofer makes. I hope you don't have full power going to those free air. If so back down the gain A LOT while they are hooked up free air.
December 9, 201113 yr Probably clipping the pee willy out of the amp.Put the sub in the box where it belongs
December 9, 201113 yr I can't watch the video either. But you could be bottoming out the subs. Not a good idea. Like I said above turn the gain way down if you are running them free air.
December 9, 201113 yr Author to be honest im not sure what the gain was set at. the amp is my friends that he has for 2 jl 12w2s.
December 9, 201113 yr "The only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he made a mistake."Sorry had to
December 9, 201113 yr Author the sub is brand new. just ordered late november. is it bad to have one coil hooked up. should i have had it at 4 ohms. and to get the storry straight, my name is walker. so s friend decided to call me chuck one day thanks to chuck norris playing walker in walker texas ranger.
December 9, 201113 yr Since when does fi use yellow spiders?Been using those for OEM for quite some time, we got tired of people not understanding the concept of the subsonic filter so we designed the spider to have the old loose leads that do not fatigue as much when you are yanking things below tuning like the integrated leads do.They are a bit more abuse tolerant / dummy proof.
