If it was just a movie sitting in a folder somewhere he didn't send and receive anything. I'm just going by what he said in that OP about the file being from a different ISP.

He said "which was a single movie I downloaded over a year ago using a different service provider."

So he did send and receive copyrighted content at some point, and it seems they passed the information off to his new isp, or his new isp had him install some software that scanned his computer and found it (if this was the case, he had to agree to a ToS / ToA when installing, thus making their activities legal).

  • I love how someone can go online and look up an ascii to binary encoder/decoder all of a sudden they are uber elite or something.

If your using there server (service) then whatever rules they set in place you have to follow, read your internet service provider agreement and you will be surprised what you see. I mean c'mon think about it, yeah in America we have freedom but its at a cost and we are watched everywhere we go. Our phones, our cars since people want all the latest gadgets (Bluetooth, GPS) are controlled and monitored. They know where your car is and or where your phone is so why dont you think they are searching your computer. I could care less if they are looking at whats on my computer, Id rather have more freedom in my car and on my phone. Home Owners association is the same thing, they can tell you what to do and how to do it with YOUR house but you are in their community.

Moral of the story is just because its YOURS doesnt mean jack shit nowadays.

I fucking hate HOAs.

Ours got so bad we moved. We would receive letters weekly threatening us with fines for parking our own vehicle in front of our house. The board consisted of a bunch of old people that has absolutely nothing better to do.

this sux ball5 so what r you thinking about OP

Encrypting HD would be a good start if thats his concern.

So why is Cox snooping around your hard-drive? I'm pretty sure that's not legal. Unless you downloaded it recently, through Cox, they should not have any knowledge of what you have on your computer.

You would be suprise to whats legal and whats not. If your suspected to be an terrorist, then govt law has the right to do has they please. You know how if you began to swerve, a cop may pull you over under "suspicion", same principal here, if they suspect him to be doing anything illegal, and he's on their network, it doesn't matter when or what happened at w/e time.

And you would be surprised to learn that what the Govt monitors is not anything Cox could touch him for. They are not even informed of what the Govt monitors or their findings.

You would be surprised what real research and properly wording your opinions would get you.

:)

I'm not sure what your trying to say? I apologize that I was pissing away time to leave from my 12 hour shift so I'm unaware of what your trying to insinuate. I'm aware that what the Govt monitors is different than Cox. I never said anything that has to do with "They are not even informed of what the Govt monitors or their findings" so thats why I'm really confused here. I only used that as an example to try and better explain my opinion that I posted. So when you say "real research", your implying that I researched what the Govt monitors vs what Cox monitors, which is false. So please, could you better clarify what your trying to say because theres obviously some discrepancy here.

You insinuated that the Govt was the cause for Cox suspending his service. I am saying no fucking way no fucking how.

it means this....."I don't think you really understand how binary works."

I use a 256bit encryption line i pay for whenever i want to download anything.

This is provided by a different service.

They do not keep logs of what you use the line for so nobody can subpoena a request to see what you have used it for...

The ISP can see in real-time or in the past that i download \ upload information all the time, even through the 256bit encrypted line, but they cannot see what information is moving through it.. hence privacy...

I have always heard that Cox is extremely anal about not being on the customer's side when it comes to stuff like that.

To put it bluntly, if you were using the service i have and Cox STILL suspended you, that's illegal.. but so is what you did, lol..
