I recently ordered an amplifier from someone on this site and I asked them for a BNIB amp instead of the amp that had been used (allegedly used for 10 minutes). I get my box, and the original packing tape was cut and retaped, so I thought no big deal. Continue to open it and I see all the tape was cut on all the boxes it was on and the inside most box had 'Tested 4-6-11' written on it. Granted its in new condition, there are no cosmetic flaws and I got all the extras that come with it but I paid extra for BNIB not tested. So my question is is this considered BNIB condition? If not, then should I pay the same price for the one said person was selling used instead of paying the BNIB for a used amp?

I don't think you'll find a Sundown amp that has not been tested. Does it look like it has been hooked up?

Granted, but if it were tested by Sundown themselves wouldn't the original packing tape be uncut? I'm not mad at anyone not am I trying to cause problems, but if I paid for a new amp and got a used one then I want the used amp price.

does it look like it was ever mounted? check the feet to see if there is any paint taken off. chance are that the seller just opened the box to inspect what was shipped originaly to him.

That's very true, I never thought of that. No, it wasn't ever mounted.

I guess I'll hook it up and if it works, I'll suck it up. At least its in new condition and (possibly) works like new.

Sounds like a bnib amp to me. Most people online are weary of buying equipment without a picture of the actual item being sold.

Sundown gets their amps from the buildhouse then will test them, then tape them back up and sell them. Technically, every amp sold will be opened and resealed or repacked. I don't see why you have an issue. These places aren't like the mainstream companies where they build thousands at a time and then ship them straight to dealers or resellers. Even if it was opened, what does it matter? It's not a collectible that will appreciate. Just be happy you have a working amplifier in perfect condition.

If it is a Sundown amp, the guys at Sundown have to open the original seals to test every unit that comes in, then reseal it. Having bought three brand new amps straight from them I was never worried about the packaging as I knew it had to be opened to be tested.

Just food for thought.

Otherwise, why worry about it if it was removed from the packaging just to inspect?

Well, like I was saying, if I paid X amount for a new amp and got a slightly used one which was being sold for a lot cheaper shouldn't I get the used amp price? Either way, like I said I'm not mad, I just don't think this is how its supposed to be. I am definitely happy with it, and I will hook it up shortly and if it works perfectly then no big deal, just curious.

Thanks for the input though, definitely appreciate that.

Didn't you see pictures of the amp before you paid for it?

My brand spanking new, only ever tested by Jacob SAZ-1500 that's upstairs in my closet has a little burn mark on the ground screw and a little bit of wear on the same screw from the screw driver (looks like the driver slipped) where they tested it. Can definitely tell someone messed with it and hooked it up, but I also know it happened during testing. Same with a small scratch on the end plate on my SAX-100.4 in my van, came like that out of the box. I'm just trying to point out that anything you see could simply be from the guys testing it.

every amp that leaves there is tested...

i cant believe you want an amp that has NOT been tested.

That's very true. I'm not saying nor accusing the guy of ripping me off, I just figured all the tape would be intact and whatnot. I'm honestly not upset at all which is why I won't say names or prices, I'm just legitimately curious if I got BNIB according to Sundown standards or if I was, in fact, ripped off. But, like I said I really do appreciate the input.

And no, I never saw a picture, but the guy was a reputable source and had many of things sold on his thread I was looking at. In hind sight, should have required a picture, but his reputation seems trustworthy. After all, I got what I wanted (pretty much) with no defects, in a very timely manner and no issues at all. I was just never aware of the fact that BNIB may mean opened in Sundown amp cases.

More times than not, BNIB equipment for sale on the forums will be opened, just not used. If you don't want open box items, ask the seller if the item is factory sealed.
