Posted February 25, 200619 yr okay i currently have 2 15 inch mags on the way (first ones were smashed by fedex, but thanks to ben levine at www.showrides.net im getting new ones at no expense to me. his customer service is an 11/10!) i have a 1000/1 right now but i wont be able to afford another 1000/1 for a while. should i run 1 of them ported (3.75 28hz) or both sealed 3 cuft each. i will be building the box and making sure it is very sturdy. now if you think i should build one for 2 15s ported then jsut let me know. all comments appreciated. i had drawn up a plan as 8 cuft ported with 8 4 inch flared ports for 2 15s already so i could do that.... but what would you reccomend as enough port area for a 15 mag. if i do one 15 ported for now i had drawn up a design with 97 sq in port 3.75 cuft 28hz. i knwo thats definetly engouh port area. i love big ports by the way. anyways, whichever you guys think would perform best out of those 3 options for right now let me know. thanks i appreciate it very much.oh and whats the xmax on the 15 mag?
February 25, 200619 yr i'd say just build whatever you want to end up with, then just power the two with the one amp for now, then when you get the second you can add it in. that way you don't have to build multiple boxes or change much.oh and I have about......40-45 sq. inches for my 15 I believe, and it works well. February 25, 200619 yr Agreed. Build for the future and underpower them slightly for now...unless the futre is a long, long ways off.
February 25, 200619 yr Author i bet if i build the 8cuft 28hz tune with 8 4 inch flared aero ports i will want the second 1000/1 so badly it wont be too long until i find the cash lol. probably like 3 months though...thanks for your opinions guys. i guess i'll have to get working on it. im gonna do either 1.5 or 1.25 inch thick walls, this box is going to be a beast...and again, does anybody know the xmax of a 15 mag?

February 25, 200619 yr Admin I personally would try to get both subs in and run them sealed to start, if you want more output then build ported, if you want more output after that get the second amplifer
February 26, 200619 yr Author darn your the first person to say do 2 sealed. lol. now i have to second guess myself... but i think i am going to still go ported because i spent part of my day drawing everything up lol. ... and 24mm of xmax doesnt sound right for 3inch P2P excursion.....

Linear throw doesn't mean peak travel. 24mm one way is almost 2" of total linear throw (24mm one-way BTW). Go an extra >0.5" each way non linear and you get 3" of total travel. Of course, peak excursion isn't limited by the motor force on ours - the end comes when the coil slams into the backplate (which it was designed for to tell you "hey, back off!"...and is also right before the spiders bottom out. Basically, it's good design) Heck, back in the day of the large-surrounded-they-suck-because-they-have-large-surrounds subs with 18mm of linear travel on a good day could still throw down 3.2"+ of total throw.
February 26, 200619 yr And we all know not many people are even going to use the full LINEAR travel anyways. On another note, don't be fooled by that single amp. The Mags will provide PLENTY of output with 500 watts per. ESPECIALLY the 15s!
February 27, 200619 yr Admin darn your the first person to say do 2 sealed. lol. now i have to second guess myself... but i think i am going to still go ported because i spent part of my day drawing everything up lol. ... and 24mm of xmax doesnt sound right for 3inch P2P excursion.....the pair are going to have tremendous output together, my ears just prefer sealed sound, and the MAG is one heck of a clean driver, so it is really up to you if you want that extra output, I like to build sealed first and if I am not happy with the output then go ported, gives a nice baseline that way
February 27, 200619 yr Author well i guess its official that its 24mm since the boss says so lol. just didnt sound right, my avalanche has 27 mm and i was just wondering which cone was to move further (just to watch i know xmax is not nearly everything, but its cool lol) and denim, i think im going to do ported, im young so i like the whole really loud thing, although i also love the clarity of a good subwoofer while everyone else has L7s and rockford crap... i want them to stop saying stereo integrity is crap just because theyve never head of them, i had my avalanche hit harder than 4 12 CVRs...(though 4 12 CVRs should have killed me).... yet they still have trouble believing me about underground companies and my box building abilities.... its time for me to make a statement lol.but thanks alot guys, i hope to get working on my box as soon as possible between highschool, college classes, work, and friends lol. i'll let ya guys know how it sounds, although im sure you know the answer...
February 27, 200619 yr Author just wondering, does anyone have all the paramaters on the 15 they could like copy and paste to me? i wanted to plot it on winISD pro... im learning how to mes withnthis program... just thought id use my own driver lol. thanks!
February 27, 200619 yr They're right on the website...lolhttp://www.stereointegrity.com/Magnum15.html
