February 27, 200619 yr I see that the T2300 is basically equal to 1.66GHz ... is this correct? Is that significantly slower than my 2.00GHz w/ 512MB RAM desktop?
February 27, 200619 yr Author So my guess is that it'll be similar to this 2.00GHz Pentium 4 machine I'm on now then.Sounds good to me.When we're talking to multiple things at once ... is that just what programs are open at one time type of thing? Most I'll be doing is likely have the antivirus running, an IM program going, browsing the internet, listening to music, and typing something up in Word.
February 27, 200619 yr A 1.73 GHz Pentium M is about equal to a 2.8 GHz P4, so it would be about 40% faster than your current desktop ...That is technically multi-tasking, but it is very light use (unless you're actually doing a virus scan), so you probably wouldn't benefit much from a dual core processor and you'd sacrifice at least an hour in battery life ...
February 27, 200619 yr Author Well, it's either that P100 or ...http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.grp?lg=e...rt=3411#spectopI guess.
February 27, 200619 yr Admin here is the specs of my work "email reader" with sensative info blocked out
February 27, 200619 yr Aaron,Which facility do you work at? One of my college buddies might work near you. The layman description of what he does is satellite programming...he is Blaine Nelson. Just thought this world might be small.Steve,Any of the machines you are looking at won't feel slow. They all can do what it sounds like you are trying to do. Enjoy! Plus, Justin's advice = teh good.
February 28, 200619 yr Admin Justin is tired of my indecisiveness when it comes to laptops is there such a thing as speaking in the 4th person?when you talk as if you are someone else speaking in the 3rd person?

February 28, 200619 yr Chit names > me. Aberdeen isn't where Blaine is but had to ask, I am going to fly out for his wedding here in a couple weeks though.
February 28, 200619 yr Author I went and got a price on the P100 today.$2316 CAD with tax. $2037 USD.That's just under $40 more than the Toshiba.ca website. Definitely willing to spend that extra $40 to get it from a local dealer.
February 28, 200619 yr Well, I know you're in Canada. But I have to throw in a good word for the Turion 64 based laptops...http://www.avadirect.com/product_details_c...r.asp?PRID=4569I'd recommend selecting the MT40 processor, 1-2gigs of ram, and 80-120 gig HD. I mean hell, with the top processor (MT40 2.2GHz), 2gigs of ram, 120gig HD, ProWireless Card, Windows x64 pro, McAffee 2005... it only comes to $1823... for a hell of a laptop. I'd at least check into it. If it's not what you're looking for (even tho you get a lot more for less money ) then forget about it. w00t. nG

March 1, 200619 yr Author http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetai...10070864&catid=Yeah, I saw that.In my opinion, it's worth the extra $150 to buy it locally.
March 1, 200619 yr uhmm, out of stock there james Most shops will still have them locally, plus you can always order one in for later ...But, if it's 6 hours away, that's kind of a hassle ...
