well i am starting the build for 1 zcon 15 tomorrow and i have a few final questions id like to get out the way to make sure this is done right the first time.....

1: should i put 45degree angles in all the corners for better airflow???

here is the link to all the dimensions and everything im doing (thanks Alton!!)

this is my daily set-up so im not going all out for spl....

i had another question but i cant think of it at the moment... haha im sure ill think of it here shortly so ill post as soon as i do haha

thanks guys!!

45's are required, they will lesson port noise, but audibly, you probably won't even notice the difference.

It's all up to you, if you want to go that extra mile with your enclosure build.

Good luck.

will it help the score any on the meter?? haha

Perhaps a few tenths.

well i guess im going to build the box (or atleast get the wood cut out) and decide then weather or not to do the 45's im still not sure

Would just doing the 2 port corners be better then?

Would just doing the 2 port corners be better then?

Chances are that you won't notice the difference "to the ear". If you don't mind your tuning going up a little and box volume decreasing go for it. You can always make the port a little longer to drop your tuning but this will further decrease your box volume.

hmm is it worth all the work for a little better air flow??

Depending on your enclosure size and size of 45's it WILL change your tuning drastically, especially if you put 45's in all corners.

You must calculate the displacement.

I don't see the displacement being enough to drastically change tuning or volume.

You can find the displacement of each corner brace in cubic feet by: (L*x^2)/6912 where x is the width of the corner brace, and L is length of the brace. Assuming measurements are made in inches.

If your wondering how I came up with that:

I used pythagoras theorem with a and b being equal, while c is the width of the corner brace.

a^2 +b^2 = c^2 rewritten since a and b are equal:

2a^2 = c^2

a^2 = (c^2)/2

a = [(c^2)/2]^0.5 = side lengths

area of triangle = (1/2)*base*height

Our base and height are equal. so (1/2)*a^2 = (a^2)/4 = area of triangle.

Volume would be: [(a^2)/4]*length of brace. So: (L*a^2) / 4 would be the volume in cubic inches. Convert to cubic feet by dividing by 12^3 or 1728.

(L*a^2)/6912

a^2 +b^2 = c^2 rewritten since a and b are equal:

2a^2 = c^2

a^2 = (c^2)/2

a = [(c^2)/2]^0.5 = side lengths

Since this is a right triangle with equal side lengths, we can simply find the area of a square and divide by two.

a^2 = area, if this was a square.

a^2 = (c^2)/2

[(c^2)/2] / 2 simplifies to: (c^2)/4 which is the area of the triangle.

Volume would be: [(c^2)/4]*length of brace. So: (L*c^2) / 4 would be the volume in cubic inches. Convert to cubic feet by dividing by 12^3 or 1728.

(L*c^2)/6912

That's why I said depending on 45 size

I experimented with tuning on my current box and added varying sizes of 45 from 8-15 inches in width and they all changed the sound of the box.

Well, a corner brace spanning 15" in width is ridiculous if you ask me.

Then again, a smaller brace around 3" - 4" may not really brace anything on a relatively large enclosure.

Either way, people can figure out the displacement on what ever they decide.

Haha yeah 8-15 inches is crazy big.

That's just how she likes it.

Your too smart para mi stefan, this will come in handy, maybe you could design my box :peepwall:

If you were to add 45's to every corner except the port it would make a big difference IMO
