how to set the right frequencies

  • Author

front doors 6x9 3 way FR 40 - 23000 Hz

rear doors 6 1/2 2 way FR 63 - 24,000 Hz

these are in CH 1 & 2

my tweeters 1 inch 2 pairs FR 3,500 - 21,000 Hz

these are in CH 3 & 4

now here do i set the frequencies

display says

FRONT EQ FREQ = 1khz to 20 i believe and same thing for REAR EQ

then

FRONT PEQ1 FREQ=1khz to16k i believe again thats where my knowledge stops lol

That's still an extremely vague question, and unfortunately the DQXS has enough settings that we are not going to be able to help you set each one appropriately for your system over the internet. There are too many variables.

What particular features are you having trouble setting? Do you understand what those features are and how to use them properly?

EDIT: We posted at the same time, and apparently the answer to my latter question would probably be "no".

A good place to start would be the read the manual cover to cover. Once you are done, read it again cover to cover. Then go out to the unit, with the manual, and read it again cover to cover while using the unit so you work through the controls and how to use the unit.

Do you already own it?  Are you planning on changing your speakers?

yes i do own it i been fucxking with the settings but i cant make it sound right lol all my settings on the H/U are in FLAT but the DQXS is where the battle is at lol

Honestly the DQXS is extreme overkill for your system, and it sounds like it's far above your knowledge level in terms of use. My personal suggestion would be to ditch it. It will be more of a burden than a benefit. And, unfortunately, there is no easy way to explain how to set the EQ bands. That unit has enough EQ bands that about the only way to use it meaningfully is with a quality measurement system to show you where the problems are & what needs to be done to correct them. Otherwise you're just throwing darts at a board. You could sit in your car for a week tweaking all of the various bands by ear and probably end up with no better sounding system than when you began.

IMO you would be much further ahead improving the quality of your system design than anything you could accomplish with the DQXS. Decrease the number of speakers, improve the quality of the speakers and installation, simply the processing/processor chain, etc etc.

who knows how to set these frequencies ???

If you are asking how to physically use the unit, read these as I suggested:

http://www.sound-bet...DQXS_Manual.pdf

http://rs.audiocontr..._38//DDC_OM.pdf

If you are asking how to properly set them.....again, you don't really have the resources to do anything useful with them right now.

Something to keep in mind when you are "playing" around with it.....every 3db increase in level requires double the power from the amplifier. I.E. by boosting frequencies on the DQXS it's possible to drive the amplifier into the clipping, which could potentially damage your speakers. +5db requires the amplifier increase power by a factor of ~3.25x.

thank you for helping me i appreciated alot well pushing the speakers is a fosgate t1000.4adcp total rated power 1414 rms

Yikes. No.

It is not a bandaid that will truly help you...unless you do a ton of reading. Playing with it will just make your system sound worse and probably have you coming back saying you blew something up. There is no one who can tell you how to set it up for one very simple reason. There is no one with a 2005 JGC with exactly the equipment you have. ALL the settings are there to deal with anomalies in your installation. If no one has the same installation they cannot tell you what the settings should be.

One other thing. Again, since EQ's are meant to deal with anomalies that means they are meant to CUT frequencies. In particular with your knowledge level I would never use them to boost anything. So then the question you may ask is what do you cut? You cut the frequencies that are naturally too boosted or causing frequency response issues in your car. If you can't hear these with your ears then the EQ you have is completely useless to you even if someone who can sets it up. If that's the case sell it.

i been doing alot of research on frequencies and crossover and EQ and i learn not to boost too much cause it can make distortion and a crossover is like a traffic cop only sending the frequencies you want to where you want them to go lol and i was getting nowhere because i was trying to set the EQ playing music at low volume when i should be playing music at 3/4 volume and then try to set frequencies lol but its getting there im not boosting too much no more only 2 or 3 db i got to messed with it more and the reason for rthe epicenter is for classic rock some country music and other types but for sure i dont like how it sounds with RAP or HIP POP it sounds terrible since i learned some knowledge can you help me now lol

PUNCTUATION.

Did you read anything that Impious or ///M5 posted?

yes why

Because they are telling you to get rid of it. Which I agree with. Why do you need the external equalizer?

well i have some 6x9 and 6 3/4 and two pairs of tweeters and the 6x9 and 6 3/4 lagg in sound quality the dqxs was a gift from my girlfriend for fathers day

Perhaps this needs to be more clear.

No fucking shit you are lacking in SQ. Your equipment choices do not go together at all. Throwing processing at the mess IS NOT going to help either.

You should remove ALL your processors, get rid of your extra tweeters, get rid of your dash speakers, get rid of the rears, sell all of it and focus on building a front stage that will sound good. With what you have you will NOT get there. And no, from your posts it is very obvious to me that you cannot learn on the fly and need more help than you will be able to deal with considering your equipment list. Once you've eliminated all that extra stuff that is only making things worse we can finally start to help you. Seriously scrap all four of your "processors.

To put this in perspective your amalgamation of processors is perhaps the worst combination of mess I've ever seen on any audio forum. You need to simplify things as you are in way over your head.
