I just recently bought a pair of IVX 12's on impulse because of the sale, ha. They're rated at 300 rms, conservatively (As stated on their website). I've also heard that Skar is just booming like crazy, and getting all sorts of comp wins.

Anyways, anyone here have any experience with how much clean power the IVX's can take?

SSA dcons are better!!!!!!!!!!!

It was an impulse buy! D:

There is no such thing as "underrated" power handling.

People who run more than "rated" wattage to a subwoofer don't realize that they are in fact not. If they were, they would thermally ruin the subwoofer...

Well, this sucks. Haha.

At least tell me that I'll be happier with the IVX's than my JL W3's... :l

getting all kinds of comp wins?

DIdn't know how to word that correctly, but I thought I saw a lot about them recently winning a lot of events.

I would take the W3's over the skars without question. Not bashing skar either.

Is it just the IVX line, or should I stray away from Skar completely?

Maybe Kevin could come in and say a few words to your question.

Why did you downgrade?

Because they were cheap. Cheap sells, no matter what.

Being cheap is not what sells. Being cheap if a by product of being low cost. In this case it was the low price, not the fact they are cheap.

The OP asked a question and gets thrown with "garbage/ssa dcon is better"? Come on guys! If I remember correctly the w3's are rated at 500 rms. Like stated above, alot of the time you think your putting 1000 watts to a 300 watt sub but box, vehicle, music being played isnt taken into consideration. Impedance rises and in reality that "300 rms"sub will not take a big ammount more than what its rated at. So you most likely downgraded unless you dropped ohm load on your amp with the Skar's.

Why did you downgrade?

Apparently I'm an idiot, ha.

My thought process.

"ERMAGERD A SALE.

ON A BRAND I'VE HEARD GREAT THINGS ABOUT KINDA.

I ONLY HAVE 1 12.

LET'S DO TWO."

...and that about sums it up. :l

You're not an idiot you just have some learning to do. Step 1: Make sure you get your info from a reliable source.

Two twelves will be louder than one W3. However I would have added another W3 before picking up the skars.

The w3 was on a four ohm load, the skars will see a 2 ohm load.

The two skars were cheaper than another w3.

I guess I'll just ask this, will they be fine on 400-500 watts clean power a piece, or no?

"cheaper" read a few post back.

There is no point in giving them more than the 300 that they are rated for.

I heard they were so underrated they can take 8635w on music all day.

Okay, I get it.

Don't give them more than rated.

Got it.

Thanks guys.
