For real drop it down lol would it affect my lows?

29in of port per cube? dayum Thats 209 in of port total, thats what i run for my TWO 18's.

I would do between 80-100sqin of port for that sub if you want it to be musical.

Having too much wont make it as musical will it?

Ok perfect i can make that happen with no problem 155, at 35hz. Wont have any port noise with that amount of port area?

Edited by Dictator

Port hole problems huh? I say you add more screws to it, that should fix the noise!

...screw theory doesnt work tried it

Well, whats your tuning? At 35hz I would have a minimum of 155.69 in^2 of port.

I think that is too much. I used 100 for my 15 in about 5 net and it was too much, I liked it a lot more with ~70.

80-100 total should be good.

Ok so 100i rather then 155?

For the 18 I'd use 110-120 it depends on what you want though.

Im looking for low end with a nice deep sound to it without any port noise or turbulence

I never go over 100 in^2 for daily for 18's. For a burp box 150 in^2 would work but it would be too peaky for a daily, not to mention hardly anything below tuning will sound like junk with that much port

there's a difference between not having port noise and not hearing it.

I've ran 4 15s before in a wall with only 144sqin of port tuned at 29hz on 14,000w worth of amps.

I never heard any issues.

I then rebuilt using 3 15s on 21,000w worth of amps using 265sqin of port tuned to ~36hz and still sounded fine.

My new build in progress is 4 18s on ~310sqin of port on 22,000w (0.5ohms)

I highly doubt i'll have any audible problems again.... speaker wise, not my ears.. oh no.. hehe.

Alright i hear what yall are saying reducing it to 100

As long as it is acting like a port, it won't sound any different no matter the area until compression sets in. More port area does not equate to peakier response. Messing something else up in the mix is what will cause this.

Aditionally, there is no correlation between box volume and vent area. At all.

Like I said, I would do between 80-100. I am running 2 18's with more Xmax and just as much motor strength as the Zcons and I have 204in of port and it falls off quickly around 4-5hz below tuning. I wish it was a hair smaller.

Just pick something close and run with it. Its easy to stress out and over think it. If your in that range and you build a good enclosure your fine.

ill shine some light on this...

im running 1 zcon 18 in 7.41 cubes net on a sundown saz 3k and i LOVE it. box is 10.4cubes gross (before all displacements) tuned at 31hz (lowend MONSTER) my box has 151sqin of port area. 7.41 cubes net

here is a vid i made today. phone doesnt pick up hardly any flex... anyways u can clearly see from the vid., it LOVES the lows ;)

Just did some messing around ended up with 157.50inchs port area with a net volume of 7.41 tuned at 34.96hz . 1.50inch mdf on sides, front, back, top with a flush mount piece for the sub equaling 3.....going to double up the port also. No flex happenening on this bad boy . Hopefully the camera is working and does not go crazy on me.

BOX height outside dimensions

Height 24

Width 41

PORT

port height 22.50, width 7, length 33. Giving it shot.

Lanz, how do you like all that port? any differences from previous setup in your truck?

155 square inches, if you would like your port to function properly with the displacement of the driver and the tuning you would like. Too little port and you've got yourself a leaky sealed box.

Rephase duran. what your saying is if your ports to big its going to act like a leaky sealed box or opposite port is too small its going to act like a leaky sealed box?
