im about to do a new setup for my single cab. not sure on the amp yet but im wanting around 1200 - 1500 watts depending on setup.ive considering doing 2 10 " SA SD'2's ported.or even thought about doing 1 " 12 SSA Icon ported. im limited on space but can make the box long and should be able to get proper airspace depending on what i go with. any opinions for me?

from what i can remember i can do anywhere from about 2.5 cubic to 3.0 ill have to get the for sure measurements tomorrow

im just looking to have a pretty loud single cab without doing a blowthrough or anything crazy, but still want the subs to sound good. i listen to all kinds of music

The single Icon would sound awesome and get plenty loud. The Sa 10s might get slightly louder due to the increased cone area but the Icon wins the sq battle.

the icon calls for 2.25 ^3 and 2 sd-2's would require 2 ^3 so i think i might be able to save a little room and like you said it would probably be a little louder having more cone area

Probably won't be much of a difference if any. And the Icon would be just fine in a 2 cubic foot enclosure.

if the 2.25 is optimal i could do that without much of a problem. and the benefit for me to do one 12 is have the sub behind the passenger seat with it up and have the port on the driver side and be able to lean my seat back on the box without worrying about hitting the sub

2-2.25 would be fine, just make sure you use the right amount of port area, and you will be set.

i did a quick draw up for a box to see what you think but i can figure out how to post it to here

Upload it to photo bucket, then use the "img code".

A 3 inch port is far too small.

im complretely open to suggestions, not the most experienced box builder. what do you reccomend?

orrrrr what about 2 of the 8" sundown sa v2's?

  • Author

its just such a hard decision . . . .but because of mounting depth and everything . . .im either going with 2 10" SA's ported or 2 12" sealed. do the sundown SA's thrive better sealed or ported?

I think I responded to you on another forum. I have a local guy with a F150 single cab I did a ported box for one 12 that you could hook up with and hear. Its 2.25cu tuned at 30hz if I remember right. Its a great design and sounds really good. he can lean his seat all the way back too.

I would like to toss the idea of using a DCON out there for you. It's rated for less power than you've originally planned on using but offers fantastic sound and surprising output. It's a cheaper sub than your other options and if the enclosure is built properly, when your budget allows it, you could buy the ICON or something of the like and sell the DCON.
