  • High end Rockford amps are great, their entry level stuff not as much. Boston Acoustics left the mobile market, that's why you can get those really good amps dirt cheap, I'd get one of those with the

  • It CAN (not "likes") handle more power. I would put my money on the SSD being better in every way than the Sundown.

Is port area entirely dependent on intended tuning frequency and box volume after displacement?

Box volume no.

Driver xmax and tuning frequency.

i think the ssd has 20 xmax and i want about 33 or 34 hz. how much port area do i need? i wouldnt think much for such a small box

  • Author

i downloaded the torres box tuning calculator and it gives all the cut pieces you need and everything put it has it where you put in for slot ports. if anyone can help me out and give me the rough dimensions i need to put in to the port pieces i can get everything cut and put together i just dont know about getting the port dimensions right

Are you going to do a slot or aero port? What sub are you getting?

  • Author

im gonna go with the ssd , 10 or 12 most likely the 12. i think aero port because i think i would be able to do that better because i dont have any experience with a slot port

i guess it was too big but box dimensions were

43 wide

9 deep

14 tall

I verified the 20mm xmax.

For 33hz you would need around 35 sq inches.

A 4" port is 12.5 sq inches lol

You can get away with a little smaller on an aeroport but not THAT much.

i thought you needed 12 to 16 inches of port area per square foot. how would i need 35 square inches for such a small box?

Box volume has nothing to do with port area.

alright well now im completely confused. do i need like 2 4" aero ports firing up to make more port area?

Two fours would work if you can get the required length. Are you worried about building a slot port or designing it?

ive got a family member with a shop with a table saw and all the tools in his shop who i can get to help me with it. the designs and dimensions are the things killing me. i am confident in taking my time and constructing the box right but like you said i cant get the designs i need

ill be moving the passenger seat up a little when i dont have anyone in there but want my seat leaned back on the box so i would need the port firing up or out the side. thats why i thought the aero is the easiest way for me to go

Be aware that the outside diameter of a 4" aero is 7 1/4"

  • Author

i guess ill just have to make the depth a little steeper to make sure it fits

2 4" ports for a single 10 (or 12) ? Wow !

It's what I had for my Xcon 15" ! And I loved it.

Good luck with your build OP.

its for a single 12. i have the cd player and amp ordered. going to be putting those in friday and picked up stuff to make the box. just have to order the sub now. probably going to go ahead and do the box to make sure i get it right before the subs gets here so i can just wire it up and try it when it gets here

I would not use the gcon for numerous reasons. The monting depth is 6.5" and that does not include clearence for the pole vent (add an extra 2-3"). Using 0.75" MDF for enclsoure construction you will not enough depth with you 8" max od measurement.

The Sundown SD-2 10" is designed for your application. Mounting depth is 4.75" and it does not have a pole vent. You can literally mount the driver against the back wall of the enclsoure without affecting driver performance. Also, it is an excellent driver for use in a small sealed enlcosure. Smaller enclsoure equals more leg room, perfect for behind the seat mounting. You can buy it here for $159.99 shipped.

This is incorrect. The GCON does not have a pole vent. It has a machined cooling plug. It does not need any space behind the magnet. I would recommend the GCON and the Boston GT2125 to you OP.

i would like to try it but im going with a single 12 and the gcon's box would have to be a little bigger than i have room for
