I needs some help with my setup, i have a fi audio sp4 15" fully loaded 1 ohm sub, i have it powered by a hifonics colossus amp i cannot even bridge the amp, but i cant get the amp turnt up at all without it clipping im using the bass knob for it and i can get it up about a quarter of the way before it starts clipping. I'm running all 0 gauge wire and i have a 350 amp alternator why is the amp clipping so bad?? im never dropping below 14 volts and it still clipping really bad, any ideas why the amp is clipping so bad??

You don't have bass boost engaged do you??

Yes the bass boost is engaged

When the bass boost is on your bass knob maybe adjusting the bass boost not the gain. If the bass boost is off the bass knob may only control the gain.

Turn bass boost off and go from there.

kinda of HU do you have?

RCA's might have low voltage or you might have something set wrong.

I never use the bass boost on my amps, just set the gains and use the HU's bass settings to compensate'somewhat'

1.How do you know the amp is clipping? Measuring the output with a oscilloscope?

2.How do you have the sub wired? Is it a dual 1 ohm sub or is it a dual 2 wired to 1 ohm.

lol and fourth do you have it wire the right way? If you have the + - reversed it will play like crap

After looking at pics online he is probably looking at the bass knob which has operation LED's (Power,Thermal, & Short) and a clipping LED. I looked at the manual and it states:

"It is common to see the LED light up GREEN for pre-clip and is not a concern. But, when the LED color changes to AMBER you will want to reduce the LEVEL or BOOST a bit until this condition is no longer experienced."

Maybe you should read the manual it just might answer most your questions lol.

Clipping lights are only accurate on test tones so if Maxxsonics is suggesting the above information while playing music, sell the amp and get something else as they do not even understand their own product's capability.
