Ok so i am an extreme noob when it comes to this kind of stuff soo that's why i need some advice. my cousin is going to give me a choice of two sets of subwoofers that he has and its either the Alpine Type R SWR-12D2 or JL audio 12W6v2. My cousin also gave me a JL audio bandpass box that looks just like this one http://www.cardomain...t-cobalt/page-2 i have been looking up reviews about bandpass boxes and so far i have found more cons than pros about them..i guess i just want to know if a bandpass box is honesty a bad choice and if i should buy another box. If you feel like it post an easy list of a good set up that would work well for two 12 inch type r subs or JLw6. I'm really not trying to bum anything off anyone here i just know a kid that has four 12inch subs in his car with 2 of them in a homemade box and 2 of them not even in one and a little 300watt amp pushing them and he thinks it hits hard! and i really really dont want to look ignorant like that haha

I would do a simple ported enclosure over a band pass for either set of woofers.

If you're just buying a pre-made box, I would defiantly have to tell you to stay away from band pass boxes they are almost always wrong.

Are you capable of building your own ported enclosure?

I agree with these guys. Pick up the JL's and forget about the bandpass box. A good, well designed and well built ported enclosure will stomp that prefab piece of garbage, period. Hell for that matter, the W6's in a well built sealed enclosure could very possibly get louder and would absolutely sound better.

Bandpass enclosures in general have their uses and utilized properly can give some great results. The problem is they're MUCH more difficult to correctly design, have no room for error in the design and build, and are pretty much never utilized correctly. I've heard a couple that were very nice, but only a couple and they were custom built, not prefab junk.

Get the JL's but make/purchase a custom ported or sealed box.
