Hey i have a xcon 10 in my trailblazer and i am looking to put more power to it. I am currently running a cadence a7hc but the sub can handle a lot more power and i would like to be louder. I have it in a 1.1 box at 35 hz. I guess i need 1800-2000+ watts and would like to keep it under 400. Any ideas on a good amp?

What load are you wired to? If you are wired to 1 ohm on the Cadence I wouldn't bother changing amps.

What are your box specs?

I am running 1 ohm. The box is 1.1^3 at 35 after displacement. It just seems like t sub wants more power. I was debating picking up an audiopipe apsm2000 just to see the difference.

If thats a ported box, which I assume because you have it tuned to 35hz.

It is to small you want to increase it to at least 1.5 to 1.75 cuft.

Also, power is the LEAST efficient way to get louder. In a perfect world a doubling of power would yield only 3dB increase in output. That's really just not worth the overall cost involved for a system that is used to listen to in a daily driver. Increasing cone area, changing the alignment of the enclosure or both is generally much more effective.

I do agree that the enclosure is definitely your limiting factor. Increase the enclosure size and ensure you have adequate port area and you SHOULD notice a notable difference in output with your current amplifier without the cost and hassle associated with the upgrade in power.

To small is bad & to big is bad. You need to build it to specs if you have the room!

That would be a downgrade in my opinion. I also think you should build a new box if possible.

You can build a new box for less then 400!

Thats because the box is to small.

If he'll post up his max dimensions, sub/port orientation preferences, and tuning preference I'd be glad to run a few numbers and post up something to build by.

I think being a trailblazer he should have plenty of room. That box he has sounds like a prefab.

It's not a prefab and it meets the spec on the smaller sealed enclosure they give specs on. The sub can flex more it does not really move a lot. What do you recommend for subsonic and lp filters? I could also go bigger on the box if I had to.

So is it a sealed enclosure or a ported enclosure? You state here the it's within specs for the sealed, and it would be, but in post #4 you say that it's "1.1^3 at 35" which leads us to believe it's a ported enclosure since you mention what seems to be a tuning spec.

If it's a sealed enclosure then there's not much you're going to be able to do to get louder. If it's indeed a ported enclosure then it needs to be bigger, period.

Subsonic should be adjusted to 3-5hz below the tuning frequency of a ported enclosure, again, if it's sealed this adjustment isn't really necessary. LPF should be adjusted to somewhere near what you have your highs HPF filter set to. The LPF and it's relationship to the HPF setting of your highs will mostly be what sounds best to you. Most people seem to end up around 80hz on both.

How much port area do you have? With the ~1400 (If I'm not mistaken) watts you have on tap, the XCON can be at it's full potential in a good enclosure. I have my 12 getting about 900 RMS and I doubt it would be much if at all louder at 1750. How did you set your gain?

And as Alton brought to my attention you said it's sealed? Port that bad boy if it isn't, and you will see a decent gain in output.

i have a 3" aero port on the box. I am going to redo the gain with a multi meter but i was messing with it a little by ear. Right now i have my tuning at like 32 and 120.

The problem with building is i do it all day and hate to do it after ha. I also can not carpet anything so i dont do it cause it slides around the trunk. What do you think on size. I have a 4" aero port and would like to see what the sub could do. Any chance you would be interested in building/carpeting it?

If you only have a 3" aero port, that is way to small. You need much more port area.
