Posted December 18, 201212 yr So I'm building a ported box and i am definitely a noob at all this. I have 2 jl audio 12w6 and online they give me all the measurements for the ported box. My problem is i'm confused on the tuning aspect of ported enclosures. I'm going to give you all a link to jls website at the bottom that tells you all the measurements for the box. Now if i have this right all i have to do is fallow the port measurements (and all the other measurements of course) and my box will be tuned to 32hz right?http://www.jlaudio.com/12w6v2-d4-car...-drivers-92121go to specifications tab and at the bottom it will say ported enclosure specifications I know its only for one subwoofer but it says "When using two subwoofers in a common enclosure simply double the required volume and, in the case of a ported enclosure, use two times the recommended port(s)." so thats all i would have to do correct? cause someone told me thats not all i have to do and thats why im a little confused. December 18, 201212 yr You can build a better enclosure than what they have listed. What are your max dimensions? How much power are you going to run? Welcome to SSA!

December 18, 201212 yr ok dont make fun of me but its a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse rsOhhh damn, not going to make fun of you but you probably don't have enough room for two 12's in a proper ported enclosure. Get your max height, width, and depth and I can tell you for sure. Did you buy anything yet?
December 18, 201212 yr Author well i know if i used the measurements the website gives me and i put the ports either in the middle or on the side it wont fit because it would be around 50 inches wide and that sure as hell wont fit in my trunk but if i put the ports on top it would be about 28 inches wide and a height of 25.75 inches and that would fit..i got the measurements of my tunk before i just didnt write it down Edited December 18, 201212 yr by tac2137
December 19, 201212 yr Author If you can provide them we can help you out.sorry it took me a min to get the measurements but here they areMax trunk width: 41 inchMax height: 31 inchesfor the depth of my trunk it shrinks because its a hatchback butDepth at its lowest point 17.5inchesDepths at its highest point 24.5 inches Edited December 19, 201212 yr by tac2137

December 19, 201212 yr Damn, if those measurement are accurate you've got PLENTY of room for two 12's ported. Even if they're not you should have room.I'm not familiar with what orientation works best for these cars, but if we can get a bit more info I'd be glad to help draw you something up.

December 19, 201212 yr I didn't mean to offend on the measurements. It's easy, especially for someone who's new to this, to miss humps, contours, changes in angles, changes in height, width, etc. Hell, I can guarantee you that people who've been doing this for years occasionally do it. I know I did on the first few designs for the amp rack for my Jimmy, which is why it changed design three times before the final one worked. On the last one I spent time taking measurements and cutting cardboard templates to ensure what I measured would fit.Even if your measurements are a little off, there's still PLENTY of room to work with, especially for two 12's. I'm with Rick on their enclosure they have posted up, it's just a bit too small. It's common for big box manufacturers to post up smaller than optimal enclosure sizes so help the uneducated masses feel at ease about the space they'll loose to the enclosure.I'm drawing up a 3.5cuft enclosure, 34" W x 14" H x 23.25" D, tuned to 32hz with a little more than 56sqin of port area (4.5" x 12.5"). That should let the subs breathe much better and have little to no port noise. JL's design would have idiotic amounts of port noise.

I just wanted to let you know i didnt half ass it and just look measurements up online but yeah you are right about the humps an shit..i think im going to go double check haha

My max width of my trunk is 37" instead of 41" because of two side humps and my max height is 26" because of a hump that runs behind my seats . Everything else is correct Edited December 21, 201212 yr by tac2137
