I just bought a dcon 12 I'm putting in a 1.75 sealed box with 400w rms I know they hold up strong in the sq department but how about spl?? Will it be loud in a xtracab tacoma?

It will sound good, but nothing you put in a small sealed enclosure and give 400 watts will be "loud". Really depends on what you feel is loud though, 130-135db will not be.

Its like asking a woman if the average Joe is "strong" ....sure but compared to a Powerlifter he would be weak.

I mean I ain't tryin to beat the block down just loud to eat in my truck?

To the ear****

Depends on your definition of "loud". It will get loud enough in a sealed enclosure for my tastes when listening to music at a normal listening level, but don't expect to be shaking houses as you drive by. Also low frequency extension is going to suffer with that driver in a sealed enclosure, those drivers really perform better in ported enclosures. IMO with that driver, especially if you are worried about output, ported is the way to go.

Would you have the room to go ported?

I have the room for ported i might just build one, but I had a good sealed box layin around so I AM A use it for the time being but will 400w rms in a ported box be to much for that dcon

can i ask though what type of music you mostly listen to so we can get a better idea of what were dealing with?

I mainly listen to rap 85% of the time then some rnb, country, rock etc.

yeah, you would definately be much happier with a properly designed ported enclosure. if you went somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.5 cubes@30hz it would sound pretty decent imo. where are you planning on putting the enclosure?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the DCON is an amazing sub. I bought one for my sister for her birthday/christmas present a couple of years ago. It's in a 2.25cuft ported enclosure tuned to 31hz that fits like a glove in the back of her Durango. It sounds absolutely amazing on everything that I've ever thrown at it and everyone she shows it off to can't believe it's just a single 12. That's an amazing feat for it's modest price. Port that baby and go, you'll love it!

Just behind my seat in the seat of the xtracab firing towards passenger side

400w rms in a ported box won't be too much will it

If it starts to smell or sound funny, turn it down.

400 watts will be perfect for the DCON's just make sure you are not feeding them a clipped signal.

clipping isn't necessarily a problem. only exceeding thermal or mechanical limits will damage sub.
