January 12, 201312 yr They have no idea what the power was because they based it off the Re of the driver. They had no idea what the actual power was once the system impedance was factored in, could vary 2-3x in overall power. Meaningless test.

It could be extremely in-efficient but that doesn't matter because this test is just testing the thermal and mechanical limitations ONLY.So.. while it has it's own meaning for certain people.. i was under the impression if someone were to compare their speakers with another, it would be to show who has the loudest, cleanest, durable, performance to ratio, etc... Not, who can take a beating the longest without any knowledge of how it sounds, is sealed enclosure THE recommended style?, improper power measurements and no dB reading..At the very least, one factor that impresses most is how loud one speaker is over another regardless if 15 variables are being overlooked intentionally or not and that wasn't done either.. Maybe SSA should "independently" do a test. We'll just get all of our vendors together and go crazy.
January 12, 201312 yr Im just not sold on those numbers. I mean it dosent say what was powering them at all. It dosent say the enclosure. It dosent say alot of stuff. They could have made shit boxes for the rest of the subs and that would lead to some failure too.

It DOES state what they used for power, enclosure sizes and how they determined power output.
January 13, 201312 yr That's just it, you don't know which one took the most abuse because you don't know how much power each driver was getting... If the Orion was in an alignment that had a lot of ripple, it could have been tested at an impedance peak and was in fact getting drastically less power than calculated using driver Re. On the other hand, one of the other drivers could have been tested in an impedance trough and received closer to the calculated power...
January 13, 201312 yr In real the real world, the Orion is probably the worst of all of those speakers. I absolutely hate the HCCA. Overhyped and overpriced.
