Interested in Seth's view on GW stuff, I don't turn near as many wrenches as I use to anymore thankfully but I haven't had a problem with any of their stuff I have.

Not for sleds.  I have a very limited set of 3/4" drive stuff, but it is way more convenient to use the socket than the breaker bar.  Both due to length and of course being a ratchet. 

 

*none of what I am buying is for my sleds, just for general use which will include the sleds.  Just moving my current 3/8" collection onto the sleds.

I haven't had a "problem" with craftsmen sockets either and the full set of those includes 12 points and 6 for nearly the same price.  I am also not eager to buy anything that is crap though

Sorry for interrupting the tool conversation, but I need to vent as well as ask some questions.

I am going to be 30 in March. I have a 7 year old little girl who lives with her mom in NY. I have been divorced, can fit what really matters to me at the end of the day in a small uhaul, and my credit is a little better than average, even though I have debts I am paying off (on my own, not via payment plan or anything).

Lately I feel like I have really wasted my life so far. I have seen places most can only read about in books, done things that wake me up at night, and have a body that loves to fuck with me as a reminder of that. That being said, I have been out of work since the end of April. I looked into trying my hand at auto sales, and quickly found out that their business model went strongly against my ethics. I have interviewed at 50+ jobs since then, and have recieved minimal interest. I don't know if I just interview like shit, the fact that I am missing a degree (get to that in a moment), or any other number of reasons.

For the last month I have gotten limited replies to my resume. I tend to value myself in a high reguard due to my experience, professionalism, and attention to detail. I am having a hard time selling myself short and just taking something so I'm 'at least working'. I bring in a bit over a grand a month in disability via the VA, and most of that pays bills, and child support. The girl works full time, and while I miss working, I cannot bring myself to work for 10 an hr after my last job payed 19.10 an hr when I left.

As for school, honestly I pissed away school time for the most part while I was in the military. Due to supervisors who consistantly demanded extra hours, I was hesitant to take in room classes, and online seemed like a crock of shit. While on my last deployment, I went back to school for a semester, and did decently. I have not been back since, and I think going back to school full time (on the GI Bill ) then finding whatever I can for part time work to kick in some extra cash. Going back scares the fuck out of me, and makes me wonder if it is worth it. I also am uncertain as what I should persue my degree in. I am mediocore at best in math and science, always did well in English, history, music and art. My color deficiency makes certain things a bitch, and often can be a real stressing facor.

Is this normal to feel like you have wasted most of your life? To not know where the fuck you are going, how you will get there, or what to do when you arrive? Am I over analyzing the situation and stressing myself out too damn much?

I'm 35, single, never been past a bordering state of IN, hell never been further than 7 hours drive time from home, I work 70-80 hours per week and get paid for forty. I take vacations to do work I otherwise don't have time for. Sounds like a boring life, BUT, I have a beautiful son that is my life now and that's what I live for. My life is strictly to make his happy and fulfilled and to raise him to become a good man.

So, it's all a matter of perspective.

Orthopedist didn't find any skeletal issues BUT seemed concerned about the tightness of the tendons in my fingers and referred me to a neurologist to get some nerve tests done. Oof.

Despair happens at 30 for a lot of men today I think.

The 30-40 used to be the super wealth accumulation time. That has switched to 40-60. Don't use your current situation as a barometer of your life achievements or future.

In my current work I have made much much much less than $10 per hour. Thankfully I average more but as Ryan experiences, I work a Fuck shit ton.

I'm sure however Sean comes quite close to making my hours put in laughable. He also stretches to make his life more secure and more comfortable.

My roommate has a masters degree from an elite program at the U of M where he was trained in technology security by CIA, FBI, and Massad(sp) directors who council the white house at top level Red VS Blue games. He walks beat security, makes less than you did. If he applied himself, he would win at life. He refuses, so he rents from me instead of me renting from him.

You get to choose what you want to do, and have the amazing parachute of your VA benefits. I'm super happy you did for our country what you did and you deserve the $$$. Now use that safety net to propel yourself.

Here is how you fix everything.

#1 calm down. Everything is better than ok. Bills are paid and you are not some fuckface.

#2 decide what you want, type it, or write it, and keep a copy close by. I have my short medium and long term goals in my briefcase. If you don't write it down and look at it, you probably won't see change.

#3 allow yourself baby steps. $10/hour is not beneath you. It a not $10/hour either. It's folding jeans in a retail setting while training to tell others to do it. The manager at the buckle from the Mall of Americal was grossing nearly $100k a year. Under him I made $3.25 per hour. I got the extra .25 per hour because I interviewed like a fucking champion and had a good resume. I busted my Ass, drank coffee and sold a fuckload of denim. I left as one of the top sales people in the company because I put just got up and did it. Paid attention to my mistakes, and always tried new ways to make it better. That $3.25/hour was my best paying job in both real dollars and experience until I started selling beds. $10/hour isn't beneath anyone.

#4 now that you have your goals written down and you have created momentum by doing something to make a bit of $$$, start planning steps and making your goals smaller. Start big, then whiddle them down into steps. You can't do this part until you have momentum though. You need reality of momentum and work to help you pace and decide your baby steps.

#5 start crossing off things as you do them. This will make you feel better than anything you have ever done. It is literally the strongest dopamine release you can give yourself.
