Typical Luxury manufacturer. It's a manufacturing issue so they'll give you a discount.

I found that a local Mpls shop will do a clutch and flywheel for about 2000-2500.

Not cheep, but really not the brutal amount I was thinking. Dealer was at 3500. That is a little bit harder to stomach.

Seriously? 3 years ago I was quote $12k from Motorwerks

I just left a message to get an actual quote from the shop. I will post results.

Seth, what would your shop charge for a clutch replacement?

From my reading almost NO SMG issues ever happen. Just clutch after clutch on the non updated units.

Discount after warranty is over is pretty Fucking awesome IMHO. Ford has done similar and so has GM.

Chrysler and jeep live by that method.

Car shutting off while driving, electrical equipment shutting off and coming back on. Found to be a bad computer module. It's a sport sedan that drives comfortably even on the 22's. definatly a nice car if priced right. It is a 6 year old car after all. I personally wouldn't own a luxury import that old due to mechanical costs. I'd rather pay a note than have the risk of having to pay 2k for a brake job and service or 3k for a transmission repair. But that's just my personal preference. If the electrical wouldn't have been under warranty it would have cost me over 6k in parts and labor.

So you'd rather take a 30% depreciation the first year than buy a 6 year old car that is done depreciating? That hurts at 70k+

OEM parts. "Performance" would drop it drastically. 1700 for a FUCKING FLYWHEEL OEM.

Performance are way cheeper.

And there is at least 1 confirmed replacement from that place doing that part and doing it right.

The price you quoted Sean sounds like a whole new transmission. And high. Looking online the tranny looks to cost 7,000 from BMW as they are the only source, kinda fucks ya if it dies.

Long ago and I have the memory of a pot smoker

every business and job driven guy I know has a horrible memory.

A vehicle especially a luxury vehicle is just that, a luxury. I don't buy used speakers or used golf clubs so I can not be upside down when Im done with them. A luxury vehicle or sports car is the same way.

There is a possibility it was $6k and I calculated I'd need it done twice. At that point there were a rath of them only lasting 30k miles

that's true but most of those people tractor cars. So when you look at the statistics from some of the forms with how many failures there were compared to how many people didn't have a failure its wavy less than 50 percent and these people all have over 60000. Sophie look at it that way it's highly unlikely that me with my grandma foot would be burning up clutches quick.

And if a purchase no matter the cost or merchandise "hurts" then that person has no business making the purchase.

Being cheep and it hurting financially are way different. I'm stupid frugral when it comes to a lot of things. Dom tastes but I only give myself highlife budgets.

At our life right now I don't even need to work, but it is smart if I do. This is my treat to myself. And what is even crazier... I will save so much on gas even with a thirsty sports car, it will probably pay for anything it costs me. So long as I don't blow it on girls and cola.

I have a bad habit of making excuses on why I shouldnt do things I want. I end up more depressed and sometimes spending more on some kind of bandaid than if I just scratched the itch.

Aaron, weren't you going to merge the two IHoPs?

Yeah, I need to run a site back up and down load the files first.

Auto buying, the hardest purchase to make.
