I can't think of any instance where tracks would be cheaper than tires.

A second axle, drive shaft and dif ain't cheep if done right. Even more so if for off road needs. Track set ups are cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

This is not new news. It's just a unimog based vehicle that was built by Freightliner and now rebadged as a Merc. There are a few horse people around here that have the FL version.

True, just seams like a silly thing to have 2 axles.

Out of my element. Have a high school buddy who epitomizes shit as luck. Car died today. Has about $3k to spend. Reliable, safe, low cost of ownership are what he should be after...

I'm at a loss, can't believe how much even older high mileage iron goes for these days.

not when you are pulling a 35 foot horse trailer weighing 20,000 pounds with 5,000 pounds of tongue weight. Which is why it's there. Now for this application its there just because people will buy it.

Mass produced and less parts always means cheaper. I'm afraid tracks do not fit here.

Maybe so. I worked with a lot more track vehicles than most have. Dont think about how different it might actually be.

and I was more thinking the actual drivetrain part rather than simply putting on tracks. If you just add the track setup you would probably get more traction for less dollar, if setting up a proper tandem axle for a little bit more traction.

I once I set up that was around $5000. That was for both sides of the vehicle.not all four corners though. Just on the drive wheels.

cant' wait to see that new 8' sub that sundown has. I bet it has like 38mm xmax and 380mm xmech. Knock your head off.

G-class body, obviously modified, unimog axles, and as far as i know it's built by merc for the arab nations, with the engine from the 63 amg. old news indeed. even older are the regular 3 axle versions build by mercedes for some armies. land rover also build 3 axle versions of their cars.
