Why should we pay 20-40% of our income so someone making $30K can get $7K back in returns, and another $15K in foodstamps and medicaid? Then consider our investments? We take risks that may produce jobs and residences for people to better their lives. These risks obviously can become lost currency on our parts. But are our risks rewarded? No. If we lose, we lose, but if we won our already taxed income becomes taxed again at an exorbitant rate. Why should I work hard and invest if my rewards are taken away and given to some loser with no work ethic and a bunch of kids?

As in never be taxed. Then in retirement or a situation when you don't have insurance you could pay for your medical bills or insurance without being taxed on it. It completely takes 5000+ per year out of your taxable costs and when you spend it 15-20 years from now it will remain tax free. It can also gain interest like a retirement account. So it can basically make all your current and future medical costs tax free. The interest is also tax free.If you max it out and the 401k you can have roughly 20k untaxed now and 5k of it completely tax avoiding for life. And it gains interest.Minimum tax be damned, that 5000 allows you to keep the third uncle Sam would steal.

Was sort of saying it is a pleasure to pay taxes. WHEN they make sense. Currently they don't make any fucking sense. What goes into the HSA is not counted as income. It directly removes it from your income prior to taxes being calculated.Even if it didn't I would still use an HSA as a way to grow money that principle and interest could then later be used to pay for bills without taxation.Maybe I am missing something and your payroll or income bracket is so high the rules completely change. I helped people with this for 7 years at 1.1M incomes and I am sure others who made more but I didn't know the spouses income....
