February 19, 201312 yr The layer of "wax" found on top of a laminate is not actually wax it's uncured resin. Oxygen inhibits the curing process so you get this goop on top. Peel Ply can be used to prevent this. Can I ask where you got your information? I have been using FG for years and had a very in depth discussion with a vendor many moons ago about the differences between resins, and was informed there is wax in ester resins that floats to the top to cover the uncured layer of resin left behind. Im not saying you are wrong, but this is contrary to everything I've ever heard about ester resins.Strangely enough I have read what Quentin says today. And I too got the same information about wax from my supplier.I do all layers in one go (or as much as possible), cold mix and it turns out nice. I've been thinking today about building a fiberglass hood for the Jeep, although I see way too much work to be worth it other than for cool factor.Carbon fiber! It would look like rice me thinks. But way cooler than fiberglass
February 19, 201312 yr First time doing fiberglass work. Waiting for the resin to harden. Fun times My first experience with fiberglass sucked What resin do you use for your aero ports? Polyester
February 19, 201312 yr Keeping my coke in the basement might be the way to keep me off the PC and working on my car.

February 19, 201312 yr It is going to be a tough sell. $300+ tax for motorcraft plugs or <100 for china plugs, or the 180 or so for the summit ones. Those global ones worked for a few years....but failed just as fast as the motorcraft ones. I also just read that motorcraft gets them built in china now....Ryan you said the performance ones have issues, do hey fuck up other parts or just not as "reliable."Everything I've read on them leads to shortened life.Just shorter coil life? I'm in a bind for cash and as long as it won't hurt the truck.... I may have to go with something cheeper for now.:-(Pretty much. Why are you dead set on replacing them all? Just replace the bad one.
February 19, 201312 yr Any of you guys have experience performing HALT Testing? Trying to find some good information for some bearing testing. What conditions? What pre-tests were done on the bearings to make sure they are consistent?I'm going to go ahead and pull a president and throw out that I inherited this situation. Now, bearings are failing in the field from "normal" use. Bearing gets around 300 psi of pressure when engaged (this is the hydraulic pressure of the system to engage the piston, bearing system). Ran 2 production setups in lab with 10 min on 1 min off cycles and lasted around 400 hours. Did the same test for an "upgraded" bearing and the first bearing lasted less than 400 hours. 2nd test is currently in progress. Bearings are thrust needle bearings. If you mean manufacturing consistency then we have some kind of quality control but I couldn't tell what it is (mostly because I don't know). The idea would be to run the production bearings at much higher pressure then back that down and run again. When the new system/bearing gets implemented we run the same test and statistically interpret the normal usage life.
February 19, 201312 yr Check with purchasing, find that they switched manufactures. Proceed to bang head against wall.

Have you data on measured loads going into the bearings? I'd be concerned over doing an accelerated test if no one has quantified the forces in operating conditions. You may accelerate the wrong portions. I'd also be very interested in QC on the bearings. If there is none, have you verified that the failing bearings met spec before being installed? Jumping to the let's test the piss out of things, before understanding the background will be an exercise in spinning circles.

Just replace the bad one.I have had a definate problem with 4. And I think they was it just stuttered on me when the temperature got warmer that more are bad. When the coolent sprayed it soaked the whole engine. I had to fill it and limp it home a couple more blocks. I have limited access to a garage. My garage is too smal for my truck so I need to schedule time with a friend to help me/let me use his place. He happens to be a tech so it should all go smooth, but I would hate to replace the 4 confirmed ones to have ths others shit on me.And again, originally I used those global plugs and it was the same price for 8 as it was for 3.
February 19, 201312 yr Did some coke(read drank) and finished fiberglassing the second door panel. Now I have to figure out a way to attach a handle and, if I want any buttons on the door or wire(PITA) them somewhere close to the center console arm rest. Then I wrap it and done.
February 19, 201312 yr Storm predicted for tomorrow afternoon-thursday snow amounts from 12-24" here predicted and of course people are getting bent out of shape. I can remember multiple times they forcasted snows like this, but not one that came true, snow and ice sure, but I don't remember anything over about 10" in the last 15 years.

It also had some cocoa powder and apple cider vinegar which was a little weird. Also put a little cilantro and raw cheddar cheese on it. Nom nom nomhttp://mealplan.primalblueprint.com/recipe/bison-chili/

February 20, 201312 yr Good keep that shit your way, I have had enough! Snow and freezing rain, now windy as hell, but not warm like hell!
February 20, 201312 yr Chili sounds good. Had a late VD dinner. Bourbon creme sauce with mushrooms and pepercorns on some 1.5" or thicker dry aged rib eyes. A little risotto. Baby greens salad.Tiramisu for dessert. Yummerz.
