Driving along one day and my 12" SSD cuts out. Its in a sealed 1.1 cu ft box. I l=pulled the sub out of the box, and noticed that an internal lead on each of the voice coils has come undone and is frayed.

I called the shop i got it installed at, and they said they don't touch sub repairs. Is this something that can be repaired? Am i Going to have to send it in to Fi to get reconed? Does anyone know a good shop in the SF Bay Area that could fix this?

Also, after a bit more research, it seems this can happen when using an improper sized box. But i was using the Fi recommended 1.1 cu ft for a sealed box. But I do not have the high QTS option which would be more ideal for a sealed box.

Thanks in advance, any input is greatly appreciated.

Can you post a picture of it?

Sorry didnt see the link.

Looks like it has experienced some overexcursion.

I would fix the settings on your amp/HU that caused this before putting in a freshly reconed sub.

You can send it in to Fi if you want to get it reconed, or order a recone and recone it yourself. (or find someone around you who knows how to do it properly and offer him a beer for it :) )

looks like overexcursion

and i can not tell from the pic but IF it does have discoloaration (brownish) it is also seeing too much power in most cases, perhaps heat from clipping aswell.

see this more then offten in amature ported installs but not too offten in sealed.

u dont need a recone.

you can order some new tinsel and rewire it ur self if your a hands on type of guy.

Or

You can get some 8guage wire

solder it to the tinsel

put some heat shrink around it

zip tie to basket .

repeat when the other one pops off

thats before it was glued down, but you should still be able to get to it, it looks like its long enough.
