I have  a Kenwood KDC X996 and it gets super hot after about 10 minutes or more of playing at volume 25 or 26 out of like 35 like cook an egg hot. I wired it using just tape an made sure it's connected good. The ground is connected to factory wire..Could it be the ground, RCA's?? ..no aftermarket amp and using stock speakers

It is shorting somewhere or is simply overloaded.

I second the short. 

 

I have 6 speakers playing on mine without any overload constantly playing at around 32 volume.

There are head units that can run hot, but it does seem to be a little odd for it to run THAT hot.  Do you have a multi-meter?  I would double check the factory speakers and make sure they are not less than 4 ohms.  Probably not, but just to be sure.  I would then check speaker wires to ground to make sure there isn't a short.  Of course, do this with power OFF.  Factory speakers and factory wiring can be funny sometimes.

It's only when i have my amplifer in use for my subs, without that amp hooked up i can play regular music on my speakers long as i want an it doesn't even change temperature. Has something to do with those being hooked up? could it be the subwoofer settings how i have it set to 80hertz and my LPF on my amp fighting the deck settings? altho i have the LPF set to around there on the amp but hard to tell if it's exact.

I'm curious to see if you found the issue and I wanted to add in some more thoughts. I know when i set the gain on the amp I made sure the HU Sub gain was set to 0. I also use the sub gain on -15 daily. I can't even get mine to get hot so maybe your unit is defective.

 

I keep mine set to 80hz as well so that's out. Last I would check continuity throughout the RCA with a DMM to make sure you aren't getting anything unwanted coming through the line.
