Im putting a system in my 2003 QC dodge pickup. Im putting in a 10" XCON and a Black Ice 1300.1 Amp which measures in at 16x8.25x2. I plan to raise the back seat a little over an inch with steel square tubing i have. I have 3/4" MDF, lifetime supply of 2oz cloth, liquid nail wood glue, and all of the odds and ends i need to build the setup, but im stuck on how i should shape the box/place the amp.

I originally planned to do a setup just like this, until today when i remembered i had a split bench rear seat!

And my rear seat..

You can see the mount of the two seats in the third picture. As of right now i plan on just notching around them, and have the amp positioned off center toward the passenger side due to clearance issues with that same seat mount. I also plan to add a SECOND sub and amp down the road, so i was going to build it where they drop right in one day.

So any other ideas?

Oh, did you let it rest at an angle or shim the rear up to make it level?

And this is what the setup would look like so far, im not real keen of the layout but idk whatelse i could do with the amp, its purdy so i dont want to tuck it away

Contemplating mounting my amp on the ceiling/headliner, i really dont like the layout under the seat

Do you need both rear seats? Is it a 60/40 bench?

  • Author

Its 60/40, yes i need both seats functional.

This is the best orientation idea i have so far, nott 100% sure its possible either i have to check some measurements

Make sure the speakers aren't too deep before you start building.

Is it possible that you could go with a center console sub enclosure ???

I have the 10" XCON mounted already too, just didnt get pics. Waiting on the amp to get here wednesday to get it mocked up, then glue the layers together

Nice start, how much depth do you have in that compartment?

We got rid of this idea right? Say yes.

I had an 09 and I did a 1.25 seat lift ( square bar stock from lowes ). I fiberglassed the bottom using the carpet to start ( it created a great mold ) then added mat to get it thicker. I used MDF to get the added height I needed to fit two 12's. The box was small but i was able to get a lower frequency than the 10's i had in the box before. I like what you are doing with your truck, nice work!

I had to mount the sub on the third layer to fit the huge a** magnet in the box. Oh well. I raised both rear seats about 1".

How thick do most of you guys do your fiberglass? I feel like i might need a little more, i have a hair over 1/8" thick.

I also am very displeased right now, maybe its my head unit but idk so i need some help here.

I have an Alpine cda-7894 (upgrading soon) head unti. There are red/white "sub w." outputs on it, i have the amp plugged into these. The sub is wired to 1ohm, checked with meter, and the power and ground are 2 gauge wire. On the head unit i have the subwoofer on, but i have to turn the sub w. bass to max, stereo bass to max, and the amps remote control knob, level, and bass boost to max in order to get anything halfway decent out of it. With everything at max, i still have to crank up the stereo to get some real bass.

So im guessing the headunit just isnt putting out a strong enough signal to the amp until i crank up the volume?

I've been reading today, looks like the older Alpine head units like mine usually can benefit from a line driver in terms of amount of bass produces. Ill have to check up on my HU, maybe give a line driver a shot unless someone has useful suggestions??

Edit: looks like my preamp outs are 4v
