Posted April 26, 200619 yr how much port area should you give a Mag 15?im thinkin about getting one to replace my 12w7.
April 26, 200619 yr Enclosure size and power level? For a safe bet, anywhere from 12 to 15 square inches per cubic foot will be good.
April 26, 200619 yr Author probably 3.5 - 3.75 tuned @ 30-32 ishgonna probably wire it @ 4ohms off an orion 2500d, so 1000 watts.
April 26, 200619 yr i have mine in a 3.7@27hz box and i have 25sq inches of port.I have absolutely no port noise.Recommended by Nick himself.
April 26, 200619 yr Admin prolly 3.5 - 3.75 tuned @ 30-32 ishgonna prolly wire it @ 4ohms off an orion 2500d, so 1000 watts.that would be sweet
April 26, 200619 yr Author i just cant make my mind up between 1 mag 15, or 2 rl-p 15'scuz id buy the mag now...then another later...but if i bought the rl-p's i could buy em both right now.decisions decisions
April 26, 200619 yr Admin either set up would be sick, just figure out how soon you want your system to get there, and if SPL is an immediate issue
April 26, 200619 yr Author meh...i just want to be considerable louder than my previous setup, but its just i can get 2 rl-ps for the price of 1 mag.i just dunno about the 200 or so dollar price difference.how much louder are mags than RL-p's?
April 26, 200619 yr Admin I believe the MAGs are more mic friendly, but two RL-ps are going to have a serious advantage over a single W7
April 27, 200619 yr Rule of thumb. 12-16 per cuft as long as you dont exceed Sd of the driver. more power and a driver with more stroke, more port area. eaiest way to be almost certian y uhave enough. Graph in WinISD and check rear port velocity. Try to keep it under 60ft/sec and you shouldnt have any problems with port noise if you round the edges. Also, if using aero ports or ports with big flares, less port area can be used because the flare allowes for greater vlocities with out noise and less restriction to air movement.
May 2, 200619 yr yes 12-15" of port per 1 cu. ft. of air space. plus if you do a slot port you can always turn it into a right angle (90*) port and round all corners. the right angle bend slows velocity reducing or eliminating port noise. Edited May 2, 200619 yr by rfpcreations
