January 13, 201411 yr Author Its that vinyl wrap like they use on race cars?this is plasti dip. My Camaro was wrapped.
January 13, 201411 yr Hugo, you think it would work on my 4.3? I can only add 1 more alt. See pic.I've looked at the 4.3 in depth. I would remake the whole braket. It would be pretty nutty, but thats the only way i see it being done. I dont really see where an add on braket could be placed. Lemme look some more. What output alternators is this ??? You think you will need more than a pair of 280s ???
January 13, 201411 yr Author Those are both stock alts. The plan is to keep the passenger side alt at 12v to run the truck accessories. Then a pair of 350s on the driver side to power the audio. Not having any batteries, I feel I need as much amperage as possible during my 30 sec music runs.
January 13, 201411 yr Gotcha ... Gonna be a tight fit for three.Worst case you could (if you plan to trailer the truck) is not to have a alternator for the truck itself ...I know of plenty of 1/4 mile race cars with no alternators ...
January 13, 201411 yr Author Truck will be a driver. Look at the picture. There is tons of room for 1 more alternator.
January 13, 201411 yr How about this? Plastidip aluminum. that's not plasti dip. Look heat gun, squeegees, and extra vinyl on the floor
January 16, 201411 yr Author Heavy metal time.1/2x2x48 inches Holes for 20 banks of caps.6 holes each for alternator runs. (12 total)12 holes for the runs to the amps. The holes fir amps and alts are drilled and tapped.More to come. Hope to finish them after the kids go to bed.
January 16, 201411 yr Author Few more pics. Not perfect but it good enough. One is done anyway. Between being a single daddy this week and real estate agents showing my house, I am short for time this week.
January 17, 201411 yr Author Hey, make sure you clean off that wax/polish where the connections are!yes sir. I just wanted to see how it looked. It will get a nice break-clean bath before any connections are made.
January 17, 201411 yr Good call. Since you are going from Aluminum bar to copper connectors (I assume) make sure and dap a little Noalox between the metals...
January 17, 201411 yr Author Good call. Since you are going from Aluminum bar to copper connectors (I assume) make sure and dap a little Noalox between the metals...is that like a dielectric grease? Never heard of it?
January 17, 201411 yr It should be used anytime you use aluminum and copper. All AC & DC connections. http://www.idealindustries.com/prodDetail.do?prodId=noalox
January 17, 201411 yr Author Good looking out. I'll order some today. I'm hoping to assemble the bank this weekend but now I may have to wait for this. Can it be had local?
January 17, 201411 yr Cool thing about it is, if your connections (being in the back of your truck) get exposed to anything like humidity, heat, cold, smoke, etc the Noalox will keep them 100%... In addition to keeping any contact resistance from developing... We use it all the time on outdoor connections... Have pulled some apart that are 10 years old and the metal is nice and clean in the connection area...
