I did some more measuring today, and I can go a little taller to 28.5" and still see with the rear view mirror.  Any issue running the port the full width on top?  I will definitely give it strong bracing!      Thoughts?

Here's the revised Torres.

  • First off, WOW!!  These Xcons sound soo smooth and clean!  I just wish I had gotten into quality gear sooner.  Like one stated earlier, they're giving me a boner...haaa   The car is also rattling soo

Wow, that is a big upgrade : from 12's to 18's !

Great work.

How do you like your Mechman alt now ?

Tuned in for more pics.

Thanks, I'm very excited to hear these!

When driving at highway speeds with rpms 1700+, I can't drive the Xcons hard enough to drop below 14.2v, on any song/tone/bassboxing edit.  Now when sitting in a parking lot playing the same Bass tune at the exact same volume, my voltage will drop to mid 13s.  I even bump the revs up to 2500 to make sure I'm getting all possible output the alt has.  I cut a stick to fit between my power seat and gas pedal, allowing to finely adjust & hold the car's rpms while checking/adjust things.

Anyone else experience this type of voltage change?        Additional power draws are not an issue, as I turn of lights, heater, etc. when testing parked.  All connections are 100% sound with big wire.  I also have a new tight serpentine belt.

I haven't asked mechman directly yet, but I need see what they say.

My guess, temperature.  Traveling down the road you're cooling things off under the hood.  Once you're parked and sitting everything under the hood heats up, including the alternator, and it's efficiency is reduced.

Just my thoughts, probably way off though.

Tuned in to see where this goes!  very cool!

Exactly what I was thinking.

When mine is super cold in the morning I get a voltage of 14.9 by the time I make it to work it's down to 14.3.

But I've had nasty voltage fluctuations with my mechman alt in the past.

If I ever get another alt it'll be a Singer.

Always had nasty voltage drop even with 3-D3100 backing it up.

Another possibility, if your vehicle is so equipped, is the electric radiator fan(s) that can pull 20-30 amps or more.
