tried a regular mouse , still the same

 Delete the software for your wireless mouse "if you actually installed it" and try..I never use the software that comes with the mouse...Some will create flaws in windows I always just use the windows drivers..

Amusingly I use WIndows 8 absolutely no differently than 7, it just does everything better.

In the 2 years I've used it I don't think I've clicked on a metro tile even twice. Better typing search via start button ftmfw.

this laptop worked fine for about a year and a half...just the last month or so the

problem has come up , I'll try and delete the mouse driver and see what happens

Try hitting the escape key before dragging and dropping? Anything happen?

 I just spent all friggin night doing a complete recovery and repair of windows 8 and all the explorer apps.....  problem fixed

 

 now all I have to do is figure out what really made the universe .....
