You do realize that all the SSA subs are made by Scott..  He owns Ascendant Audio and FI Car Audio and makes the Crossfire XS series subs..  So, asking if you should buy an AA Mayhem or a SSA ZCON is a little pointless.  They both use the same parts and are designed for similar uses..  Scott started Resonant Engineering and all of these are improved versions of the MT that he designed and built at RE..

Well I didn't know that but the reason why I was asking is because I know their both top brands. I was just wondering why the ssa was $10 more expensive but the aa was rated more in the rms. And it looked way beefier than the zcon.

Was wondering if there was something I didn't know about because I know aa isn't the bottom of the top brands, do I was curious why the ssa is more expensive. That's all.

  • The wait time for me was longer than normal because of the tax season when i ordered. Damn near drove me crazy waiting and i thought aboit cancelling my order several times. I'm really glad i didn't

  • I can say from experience that zcons are nasty and can take a beating. I cant compare the two though.

  • Its a pretty lomg wait time. Well worth it though. As long as your not in desperate need of it asap.

Ok. What about making the box on the larger size to Co pensive not having a lot of power? Say a 2k sub but you only have 1k? I read it increases the efficiency.

And I emailed Quentin and he said don't lower the box smaller than 1.5 in I have the room lol

Your talking RMS ratings.  They have nothing to do with output or efficiency, at all...

Could you explain what they mean when they talk like that about making box smaller or larger

Mechanical power handling is related to enclosure volume and tuning.  When you change these variables, you change the mechanical power handling of the overall system (varying with frequency).

Some people will make an enclosure smaller than the optimal response/efficiency design in order to increase mechanical power handling.  They believe this will increase SPL.  It doesn't...  Any net increase in SPL will be due to a shift in system resonance.  The same resonance could be exploited even more so with the larger enclosure at a different tuning...

This clarified a lot to me. Thanks, I'm glad you put what people says, and debunked it. Lol it answers a lot

From my understanding shrinking a box to the factory specs on the right amount of power gives you better come control

^^ Not really.  There are a lot of aspects that related to "Cone Control"  or dampening...  Size is not the only aspect, and often there are other aspects of the design that affect dampening even more so in a certain passband...

Can you please tell me the other aspects related to cone control...

Im still new to this and that is wat I was told by a local basshead...

Google search "Dampening".  Try and find some articles that talk about loudspeaker dampening and how different enclosures dampen the drivers differently.  If you have a chance, pick up the Loudspeaker Design Cookbook by Vance Dickason and read at least the first few chapters...  That will get you off in the right direction...

Thanks man will do...

If you want cheap buy a paperback and older addition. Not worth any extra for the newer versions
