January 17, 20169 yr Man I'm really confused now, I read if you use a bigger box than recommended you can underpowered them a they will pound. I have calculated four different times,3 ways I come up with 3 cubic ft.So that's what I have to work with and I'm planning on running it at 1ohm so 1183rms watts. So 2 10s,3 or 4 8s or maybe the hst stereo integrity(if I oversized the box and raised it above the seats so it can be over 9or 10 wide) Instead of will this work with that question that doesn't help anyone. Is there a formula or rule to go by for this? Like it's ok to give it 200rms less if you give it this much .stop reading wherever you read that. Completely wrong....Also you need to calculate your INTERNAL space not external. This means subtract the port and woofers. Exactly why I asked you about an external port a while back...
January 17, 20169 yr Author It should be close with the sub ,I subtracted .2 for the sub .I don't know about port volume ,over my head. I'm trying to read so I don't ask stupid questions ,I know how people hate that. I'm trying to learn about cabin gain, how to tune a box to a certain Hz , stuff like that. Most of the stuff I find is misleading though.

Should I say you sent me? I tried and tried but only got 10 inches wide. I just seen a YouTube video of what I'm looking for in a single cab like mine. It had 4 obsidian 10s,with this awesome little armrest. I know I can't fit 4 10s, I'm just going to see what he can give me for cubes. They wouldn't know me by my forum name, you can tell them Sean, Bruce's friend, from Kalamazoo recommended their shop.
January 18, 20169 yr Author Hey Michigan folks, gas is 47 cents a gallon in Houghton lake Michigan. I filled all my motorcycles and atvs.
January 19, 20169 yr 47??? or 1.47? The latter is inline with what I filled up last week, but yikes! How was the snow in Houghton? I'm itching to ride!! Not sure if it is worth towing the trailer that far though.
January 19, 20169 yr Author .47 cents can you believe it!They are having price wars and I was just letting peeps know ,if they didn't(hard enough out there ya know) I don't think there's enough snow, but I could be wrong. I think I understand surface area >x max. I need to get as much air in ,and get rid of it quickly just like an engine. Just like "no replacement for displacement" relates because air volume=boom? Since I only have around 3 cubes ,I have to use it as effectively as possible. Are the aero ports are a way of using the venturi effect? If so that's where I need to be,I think I'm going to study how to improve airflow,to bad I can't stick a Garrett t3/t4 on it!
January 21, 20169 yr .47 wasn't retail. Aeroports do no magic, just smooth out the moving air nicely which allows for a slightly smaller opening.
January 21, 20169 yr Author I live in Bay City on the other side of the state and people were posting it on Facebook. I got gas for 1.43 and filled my stuff up,my apologies if I made it sound like I got gas for .47. ANYWAYS, I am going to use a sundown x-8 in a ported box with curved ports.I seen a ranger on YouTube with that sub and 800rms and it was pushing out the rear window pretty good. I'll be running 1100 rms ,I was thinking about the sa-8 spl version but I didn't see a 2 ohm model.
January 21, 20169 yr A ported 8 in a proper box takes more space than a sealed 12 and won't do as well....
January 21, 20169 yr A ported 8 in a proper box takes more space than a sealed 12 and won't do as well.... Listen to this^^, make a 10" or 12" work. Did you go Advanced yet?
January 21, 20169 yr Author I talked to talked to him on the phone and that's what we had decided on but I was in the area.I stopped in to auto tunz in Flint ,Michigan. The guys name was Ryan also nice guy. He thinks I can get a ten in there and he wants to do a really cool box.One thing , my truck was louder than his now. I even set off his car alarm, but some people don't like that much bass and that's fine.I just want someone that wants to get as much sound pressure as I do. I do want a bigger sub ,but Ryan from advanced told me he could tune the 8s to hit as low as the 10s,12s, I am aware that this is in direct conflict with what I've heard, but I just keep my mouth shut.He said he would tune it low somehow in conjunction with the cabin gain. I am saving for the woofer/woofers, I was going to only spend max 300 so the x-8, 3 Alpine type r( I don't really want old alpine) or ?????????

I am saving for the woofer/woofers, I was going to only spend max 250, so with box 500. I been looking at 8s , with tens I could use those daytons (I hear those are REALLY good). I didn't want to go sealed and I do have 3 cubic ft to work with and it will have 25 inches depth in the back so a lot is possible.I got 11 inches across also the box will be staggered to allow me to shift.now you guys know the airspace and important spaces. I don't use my rearview mirror really so the box can go to the ceiling for all I care.
January 22, 20169 yr Where are you hearing things?I think you have been quite misled elsewhere, and this is what is causing so much confusion and difficulty.Speaker size has nothing to do with how "low" they will play.If you have room for a larger woofer, and are looking for output, go with the larger woofer.
January 22, 20169 yr 8" woofers run alone in a ported enclosure are always dumb. I've never seen an exception.
January 23, 20169 yr Author Ok guys , I found a guy that built a fiberglass box for behind the seats, it was built for two 10" sd3 sundowns. Its giving them .6 each which is what they like. Its really cheap and this would save me some cash, have to buy the sd3s. My amp would give them little more than rms which is fine with sundowns.
January 23, 20169 yr Tons of 10s would be happy in that volume. Buying ones geared towards a sealed enclosure would be better than the sd's. Do realize that will be like a single 10 ported. Also if the enclosure isn't great it would defeat the purpose so definitely ask for pics and post them

I've never seen an exception. The 8W7 is an exception. Unfortunately it's sheer mounting depth and need for a net cube when vented make the "little" driver occupy the same space as a conentional larger woofer in most instances. It is the best 8" on the market though, no boundaries given.
January 23, 20169 yr Author m5 The SD3 are for sealed enclosures only and its for shallow depth, it seems you don't like any of my woofer suggestions. You know what I'm working with ,so what should I do then?
January 23, 20169 yr Author That spl box for the x-8 is about the exact measurements of the console I wanted, 10" wide, 10 depth,34" length . the x-8 wants .76 . I really dont want to cough up the money for a x-10. Im hung up on sundown because I see what they do ,I dont care about if it will last ,ill get bored and sell this truck anyway. What 10 or 10s will stand up to or beat the sundown 10 for flexing stuff, and that will be 250 or less. Lemme guess those dang alpine type r. If they are the best for the job ,I will have to get them build in a box where i don't have to see them. So anyone ,give me suggestions and Ill start looking , or if you have used woofers . I don t need new subs if you have something that would work well for me, and give you some cash to get new stuff by all means.

As for what you should do, you need to determine your exact space. Until that happens it is pre-mature to shop. Mock up a box like I recommended before. It would have taken way less time than the online shopping you are doing and wouldn't be based on false pretexts.

January 24, 20169 yr Author I don't know what else I'm supposed to do to determine the space. I have given measurements of the space I have to work with , I have given a maximum price on woofers(which can vary abit) , I have given how much rms I have to give it, I don't want a sealed box, 10 inches depth ( this can increase to 20" depth after 5"),10 wide, 34 inches long . Final answer , no telephone a friend, no ask the audience, or multiple choice.
January 24, 20169 yr You specifically don't want a sealed driver, even if it's best for your application?
January 24, 20169 yr Author I want that big boom that carries for awhile down the road.Sealed drivers are tight and punchy right? That's not really what I want. The sealed box that I'm thinking of getting vs getting the box built. He told me he moved the window ,but I seen a YouTube video and a sd3 getting 500 watts in a sealed box was pathetic. He's building a blow through because the box wasn't enough so ..... That's why I'm questioning the sealed option.
