hey, i got a pair of MTX coaxials, they were $30 brand new so you can't beat that. i wanted to get components but i was low on cash and this was a pretty good deal. i am pretty happy with them other than the stupid tweeters. they are way too harsh and too loud for my liking. how can i fix this? i've messed with the 7 band EQ on my head unit and still can't get em down. are there low pass filters or sumthin to filter out the higher tones? like the opposite of a bass blocker or sumthin....?

you can get low pass filters but im not shure that is what you want or if they go high enough to suit you. just try to turn the treble all the way down and if that is still not enough i dont know what to do.

I am a little confused, are you not liking the sound of the tweeters or is the output of the tweeters too much?

What frequencies have you tried on the head unit?

I'm sure there's a way to EQ it out :)

both, they are harsh and they are too loud. is that possible or do they seem too loud because of the harshness?

i have the treble way down, i think all the way down actually, and and i have been messing with the EQ. i dont really know which frequencies are on the EQ (im no expert) but i know that the last 3 bars on the right are set at 0 db. if i go much lower then it doesnt sound right. i want to buy an EQ but im broke right now unfortunately.

If the tweets are really strong you are going to want to set them lower than 0db, see if there is a setting to push them down to -3 or -6db.

now i have the very last column on the right set to -8 and the next to last column set to -6 db and it is still doin it...i did buy a cheapo pair of 3.5" speakers to replace my blown stockers, could it be those? should i just disconnect the tweets on the mtx's?

I imagine half the problem is that you have to turn up the stereo so much to get any descent amount of output in the midrange/midbass frequencies. Once you deaden the doors you really realize what was missing.

i would agree with that, i have very weak midbass, probably non-existent, its tough to do it on a budget. does deadening the doors really make that big of a difference?? i had considered putting that peal n seal on my doors (the stuff used for roofs). would that do the job, or do i need some real stuff made for deadening?

i remember that when i put my cd player in, i put bass blocks on the front speakers, do i really need those or is it just killing my midbass? will my speakers distort if i take them off?
