I'm wondering about the Orion 222 SX.

Like this:

I know it is rated for 22w X 2 @ 4 Ohms. Outside of that, however, I am somehow under the impression that the SX-series units would do somewhat over rated power and additionally would run at lower than expected resistance loads like the HCCA and XTR amps would? If I am mistaken about this please do correct my ignorance. ;)

If anyone knows the real output of this little guy or could maybe point me towards an installation/user's manual I would be greatly appreciative.

Wow, thats a classic, wish I could help though.

Yeah....I've looked and looked and looked online, Googled it, etc and stangely cannot find anything on it? :ughdunno:

IIRC these amps were fairly popular back in the day and I would have figured someone would be able to tell me something about it more than I already know (which is very limited info indeed, sadly)

there is a teaser bit of info...

not much, but it's a start. i found a few other threads hinting that the 222sx would handle 2 ohm mono and produce roughly 180wrms...

Okay, that's more than I had previously, I reckon. Thanks for that :thanx: I ws hopin it would end up being worth what I paid for it. :)

I reckon I will have to either call Orion...errm, Directed (would Directed have that info?) or email them and see if I can get further info to either validate or refute the idea of running it 2 Ohm bridged (which is what I was thinking it would run at previously before you said it too)

lol....i wish i could have dug up more, but that's an old amp..lol..

i saw prices range from about $60 to $150..to kinda give ya an idea about what's it's supposed to be worth.

and it's old skool...so it's gotta be kewl!

thats the kind of amp you just keep,

never sell it even if it breaks

Well, denim, someone else decided to sell it and I bought it.

I don't see that I'll be getting rid of it, though. :)

well I understand that :P

I am just saying that is similar to my old RF 125a2 and 250a2.

I feel ya on that. I have one of the original Punch 150s that I haven't used in years now. I hook it up every now and again to make sure it still works and other than that it sits in the closet. This little Orion might become a partner to the P150 on the shelf.

I've got one of those on my tweets.

That's a classic!

I would definitely call Directed - I spoke with them on the phone just last week and have no complaints ... the tech definitely knew his stuff and helped me out. :)

But what might the odds be of a current DEI tech knowing something about a product that was from long before Orion was under the Directed umbrella?

Meh.

I'll give 'em a shout in the AM and see, i suppose. :)

Well, I navigated my way through DEI's automated phone system and spoke to an incredibly friendly fella who informed me that he does, in fact, have some info on this little SX amplifier and he'd be more than happy to either fax or email that info to me pronto.

I gave over my email address and he assured me that I'd have that info ASAP. Say what you like about the way some of the brands taken over by DEI have gone downhill since becoming part of the Directed universe but their CS, at least in my minimal experience, is right on top of things :)

Now that I've gone through that process of course my email has to have an attitude and won't let me in (a server problem not a failure to remember my login info problem but maddening all the same)

Okay - maybe not so helpful after all. :(

I was sent an owner's manual that covers all of the SX-series amps and provided no more output information than what I already know. It tells you that it is bridgeable and how to properly do that but provides exactly ZERO information on output outside of normal, 2-channel, 4 Ohm stereo operation :(

So now I'm back to square one.

that stinks, I hope someone can find something
