I'm building a SQ box, for my 15 inch RL-p, and the dimensions I'm using are 25x11.5x33. The wood I am using is 1 inch thick. I plan on using a slot port and tuning it to ~29 hz. The only problem is in order for the port to be on the same plain as the subwoofer and be tuned properly with the right area, it says the port will have to be 31 inches wide, by 1.25, with around 38 inches as the length. I've seen lots of other slot ports and most are opened wider than 1.25 inches. I was just wondering, with it being that skinny would it be tuned properly? It still meets the area requirements, ~38.75 square in. its just skinny, and I wanted to make sure turbulance wouldn't effect tuning in my case. Thanks alot

i think i had this same problem and my box was alot bigger. I think mines was 3in wide, but if u ever have seen anyone elses box, the port usually isnt that big, unless its like a wall or something.

So i would guess and say u'll be alright, I've also read that if ur port is longer than ur box, just cut the piece and add it to the end of the port making like an L shape.

That seems to small, you will probably get some mad port noise

Drop down the height so you can make it wider

i'm assuming your box is 11.5 tall? if so, run your port that direction, ie; 4" wide, 9.5" tall and the length you mentioned above...

with a port like that, i too, think you'll end up with noise.

If I add the port to the 11.5 inch side then it will be on a different plain as the subwoofer. I am mounting the subwoofer facing up, and if I placed the port on the 11.5 inch side it would make the port on the side of the box instead facing up with the speaker, how bad of a thing would that be?

what vehicle is it in? if its an SUV or a hatch port back sub up is best for loudness and normally doesnt make a big difference in SQ .

It's called a CRX style box.

The other option would be to make the box a bit longer, but I assume you've already thought of that...

i have a CRX style box in my trunk and the port is 1.5" x 29" and i have zero port noise, you might be alright. i am running a 13Ov.2 with only 400 watts so that could make a difference too...

I suppose I can try the CRX box design. I thought of that idea before, that or porting it facing foward, however I just thought CRX boxes were always associated with SPL comps, however if its not gonna mess up SQ (which is definantly what I'm going for) then it sounds like it'll work to me. If it is a trunked car I dont know if CRX style boxes are going to be any louder (may even be less loud) but unless it causes some sort of funkyassed cancelation an transient responce SQ should be unharmed.

i've done this is a mustang...(newer body style, os it's a truck car) and it sounded beautiful and got very loud (sub up, port loading into the rear wall) it was a 12" mtx 7500 and a rf 800.2.....

teh only sq loss would be if the port was too small and you ended up with port noise. i've never noticed any difference in sq no matter which plane the port was on compared to the sub...
