March 11, 200718 yr Author sorry about my wordings... I've learned to speak in buildhouse about speakers.. I sometimes forget to call things common terms..We tested out the proto today...it performed amazing!, in comparision to woofers we testing during the 12 test session, it was louder than any other woofer posted in the SPL burp listings, with 2kw.. the only woofers louder were the BTL, with 6kw, and the FA MF with 8kw..it withstood 1 full minute of 3kw from a memphis 4kd at 20hz, freeair.. no failure..with a couple small adjustments, which I've already sent to Mark.. it should be ready for production.overall, its a very loud, very abuse tolerant design, and still sounded pretty decent with music..did everything I wanted it too, and more.. the build was absolutely flawlass, as I took it apart after testing to examine the coil, and other stuff..I'll have some photos and videos up later on tomorrow..I think everyone in attendence was impressedLoyd L.
March 11, 200718 yr Great news, I especially like how it handled the 2kw @ 20hz in free air....Makes me wonder how stiff the spiders are though!Glad to hear that they're loud though
March 11, 200718 yr Any idea of end user cost Mark? What will it be rated at? And you also said that it was louder then all of the 12" drivers on the test except for two. Was that test using the same enclosures for all the subs and was it Termlabed? Thanks Edited March 11, 200718 yr by Smartass.bz
March 11, 200718 yr Author it was tested in the same enclosures, in the same vehicles, on the same termlab as used during the 12 inch test session..Loyd L.Any idea of end user cost Mark? Was that test using the same enclosures for all the subs and was it Termlabed?ThanksHi Steve,Loyd has made some suggestions that may affect the overall cost of the unit. So currently, I cannot say for certain what the final cost will be. What I can tell you is it will not be as much as a DD Best regards,Mark
March 11, 200718 yr Author Videos and pictures FTW!!!here's one..20hz, 2.5kw, then 3kw towards the end (you'll know when we turn it up)this was during the "try to kill it" portion of testingLoyd L.
March 11, 200718 yr So we know it can move alot of air and take alot of power in doing it. But I guess what everyone is wondering is how would it sound as a DD?
March 12, 200718 yr Author I covered that in a previous post.. "..still sounded decent enough on music"I spent enough time with the driver to see how it did subjectively, and I'm happy with how it sounds considering its design, and purpose.people certainly drive around smiling listening to alot worse... Loyd L.
March 12, 200718 yr Admin I like loyds Logo idea. This only makes me more anxious about the other one on its way here.
March 14, 200718 yr Thats a pretty wide swath... Which will it not be more than? a 3500 series? a 9500 series? a 1500 series? :wishing: lol What I can tell you is it will not be as much as a DD Best regards,Mark Edited March 14, 200718 yr by Fixxer
