Posted March 14, 200718 yr Well, I received my MJ-18 last week and I am excited. I will be using the same size enclosure that Mark used on his Sonotube sub which is 8.8 cu ft. I've used lots of mdf in the past so the main enclosure will be made out of 13ply oak plywood with mdf bracing. I'm hoping to get started this weekend on the enclosure.By the way, how do I post pics? I don't see an attachment manager.
March 14, 200718 yr when you make a post, there will be a little clickable icon in a group of several above the text box. it looks like a picture. just post the image url in there and it will code it for you and insert it in your post where the flashing vertical bar was last. lets see those pics
March 14, 200718 yr For sure, keep us updated on it. I still have to fix up the pictures on the blog...
March 15, 200718 yr Author Here's the WinISD and my kids holding the driver. I hope to start building on Friday!
March 15, 200718 yr Author Mark,What do you think about changing the tuning frequency? Below are WinISD for 18Hz(light color) and 21Hz(darker color) tuning. Any thoughts?
March 15, 200718 yr If he never watches anything with stuff below 20hz, the 21hz tuning would be gerat (even better with a subsonic filter).Otherwise, the 18hz tuning has at least 3db oevr the 21hz tuning at anything below ~18hz or so... which mean a LOT more fun in the super low octaves
March 15, 200718 yr Agreed. It seemd that there are more movies coming out with alot of the ultra low stuff. I can't see it making THAT much of a difference. You will still get usable bass down low, and if you EQ it, who cares?Best,Mark
March 16, 200718 yr You guys should have seen my house when I was running sweeps with that setup...The magic frequency was 28Hz. EVERYTHING was moving.

March 17, 200718 yr Author Well, I bought a Bash300 amp because I sold me Bash500 last month. I also bought a 6" sonotube from Lowes. I have acoustic foam, rubber feet for the base, mdf, plywood and lots of glue. Hmmm what do I need? Oh yeah, I need my wife to stop pouting so I can go outside in the freezing weather and cut some braces and wood in my unheated shop! Oh well, I guess she needs some attention too (then again I spent all day yesterday with the family).
March 17, 200718 yr Author I forgot to mention that I hooked the Bash300 amp up to the MJ-18 and let it sit on the floor. I played some music selections with heavy bass and wow. I turned the speakers down and cranked up the bass knob, the floor was shaking and the speaker was thumping away. Maybe that's why my wife doesn't want me to work on the subwoofer, she knows it's going to blow the house apart when its done!
