Posted March 14, 200718 yr I was looking at the MAW-12 for home theater use...the MAW-12 looks like it can be used in a rather small enclosure (1.8 ft3 tuned to 28 HZ) It looks like a good value with reasonable low extension in a small vented enclosure. ANyone using this sub ? Especially in a similar enclosure? Any recommendations on any of the MACH5 line for home theater or another driver ? Criteria for the sub are 1) small - 2ft3 or less2) decent (87 db + sensitivity) 3) decent low frequency extension (35 Hz or below F3) Has anyone used one of the MAW drivers with a passive radiator ? The MAW-12 could definitely be used with a passive radiator setup...
March 15, 200718 yr The whole trick to doing a HT sub is to build big and tune low. There is much more usable information in the nether regions as compared to straight audio, so you want to get as much of this as you can.If you can sacrifice going a bit bigger, 3 cubes tunes to 22Hz should give you good output for HT.Best,Mark

THis would be a EBS alignment for the MAW-12 ? Any other suggestions for a subwoofer with the above criteria? This project is for a third party. The sub will be used for music and home theater use. EBS usually have some trade offs between upper octave bass and lower.

March 16, 200718 yr Author http://diyaudioprojects.com/Speakers/MAW-10/MAW-10.htm OK...thanks...can the MAW line of drivers be mounted horizontal ? Or will this affect driver life span ?
March 18, 200718 yr Yes, no problem. Perhaps look into snagging a Sonotube - good, cheap and easy to put together.Best,Mark
March 19, 200718 yr I'd prefer the lower tuning at home as well. It should sound great. What are you going to power it with?
March 19, 200718 yr I have used the Maw-12 as a ht sub and my box is ~ 2.5ft^3 tuned to ~ 25hz.It sounds great, and goes low. I'm quite pleased.
