Posted April 11, 200421 yr I need a class D amp for my mag15 (since I can't find a PPI PC2350). I am looking for 1000-1500 watts at either 1ohm or 4ohms. I have a PG Tantrum 1200.1 but it sucks my elec system dry and I want to get a Class D amp to help out on my elec system some. So if anyone has any recomendations please add them here.also: FS: PG Tantrum 1200.1 Edited April 11, 200421 yr by cjj2d
April 11, 200421 yr Author anybody run a Hifonics? do you like it? or have had any good experience with one?
April 11, 200421 yr im gettting a directed 1100d....look on ebay. im getting the super cheap refurb ones with 1 year warranty.
April 11, 200421 yr Mmats Mod. D300 or u can go w/ there 1400.1. the D300 has a little bit more power
April 11, 200421 yr Damping factor on amplifiers has been discussed and argued over for YEARS on countless forums. There is a technical explanation for it (maybe Jacob can bumb in here and clear that up for us), but it deals with how well the amplifier can "control" the subwoofer. Some people say that anything over 100 is in-audible, and that's the general rule for the most part. You might want to do a search on a couple of forums and just look over the results you get.
April 12, 200421 yr The Vipers have proven to put out more power than the Directed 1100. Do a search the 1200D did like 1600w, and strapped 2 of them did like almost 4000w!!!! So later if you want to pick up another one you will have MAJOR power.Class T's are pretty efficient too, can't imagine a class D is gonna help THAT much. You haven't had much luck with that amp in alot of respects have you?
April 12, 200421 yr Author I got it to perform pretty damn well, but I just want a Class D amp stable at 1 ohm. No major reason against the PG amp. Alot of people love them.
April 12, 200421 yr Author what do you mean by over 100 its inaudible? is there a sound associated with one that say has a damping factor of >50? like the Orion amps?searching forums as well.
April 12, 200421 yr jbl 1200.1 all the way! bench tested to do about 1400 watts, a little under $300 on ebay
April 13, 200421 yr i don't see how a 1000 watt class D amp will be better as far as saving your electrical than a pg tantrum. at least with my car i used to have a rockford 1001bd and it would run down my alt as much as my tantrum. best bet is to keep the tantrum save money and get a new alt. ever try upgrading the big 3? that will give you a little help.
