Posted May 8, 200718 yr I have a friend that wants a box built for a 8" sub. I have some 1/2" MDF that I could make it out of. The box will be sealed and not have a lot of flat surface (maybe even some glassing involved to make it fit). Would this be a good idea? I'm not sure about the thickness of the MDF. The sub will only be seeing about 200rms or so.
May 8, 200718 yr Admin I agree with all the above suggestions. With an 8" sub and 200 watts your not going to be blowing the box apart. So you should be fine.
May 9, 200718 yr i actually just finished a setup like that.diamond d3 8" d4 in a sealed box off a d3400.1 amp, used 1/2" MDF (no double baffle).works just fine Edited May 9, 200718 yr by Kusan031
May 10, 200718 yr Author So this is the sub box that comes with the Ford Edge (with the audio upgrade. It made of ABS plastic. I'm not sure what the internal volume is, but I think it's about .4 -.6. The sub is an 8" something or other and the tiny amp puts out 180watt MAX. Anyway this thing needs some help. Hench the questions about different boxes and materials. I'm trying to help a friend out with this project and simply do a sub/box upgrade. She has a line output converter (now I need to figure out which wires plug into it) and that's it so far. I'm gonna mock up an 8" AA assasin (sealed) and a 10" Alpine Type S (sealed) in the SUV. As far as amps go, I think I'm gonna put my Minilith in there for now just to give her an idea about the amount bassshe would potentially want. Here are the options I have for making the box.1.Use the existing box for the Assasin and mount another 1/2" MDF baffle for depth and reinforcment. I'm thinking I could also put a few layers of sound deadening sheets to help deaden the box (I think it may resonate too much. This is a much more ghetto approach to the install.2. Make a custom enclusure for the AA/or Alpine. Problem here is that the room I have to work with sucks. Mucho curves with the wheel well and everywhere else. This would take much longer and involve some glassing too. I'm not sure if I or she wants to get that much into it though.Any advice or help would be appreciated.
