Hey guys I can't wait to swap my 2 12s for a single 18 for some real low extension and think these are the two possible winners.

the Sound Splinter Rlp 18 and the Fi Q 18.

The RL-p 18 is too new to market for someone to have tested both I think. Both are very capable woofers that their smaller counter parts have proven them selves.

I dont think there is anyone YET that has heard them both together. I will say though they seem to be evenly matched but the Fi woofer comes in at almost $100 less (based on retail prices).

I think if you're looking for low extension (like the type necessary in home theatre), than the RL-p is likely your best bet. With that said, it is more expensive and that type of extension is (in my opinion) relatively unnecessary in a vehicle, unless you plan on competing extensively.

I am with you up until the last six words. IMO, lowend extension is far from necessary for competition. I don't know how the SQ guys do, but I am sure a fat bottom end is far from good for them. AFAIK, they shoot for a flatter OVERALL response with not so much SPL in the way of low bass.

As far as the SPL guys go, they are tuning much much higher than even normal daily driving needs. Hell, I've seen some of them even peaking upwards of 70Hz. They are concerned about a small passband actually and in many cases just looking for that peak at one note, in one spot (the most exciting to the meter).

I do agree with the rest though. I often wonder why I see some people tuning a car auding application in the low 20s or below. After you throw that thing in the vehicle, it's nothing more than a headache. Most "normal" applications whom use this sort of alignment, EBS persay, are not happy with the end product. IT's an exagerrated lowend that almost always needs EQ work, unless you like your eardrums bloody. Transfer function is a beautiful thing, but sometimes it can bite you in the ass.

I think if it came down to that, it would depend on the application and wattage.

soundsplinter. because mike is too cute not to buy from, lol.

in reality, i don't have a clue. both mike and scott are outstanding people, both have far better then average customer service, and both provide killer product at killer prices. i'd have to say buy the one that better fits the budget. meaning, cost of sub, amp, install. otherwise, i don't think you can make a wrong decision here.

I would say that it depends on how much power are you going to give them. Below 1000w RL-p, 1000 - 1500w Q. I myself had to pick either one but would love to have both. In the end I pick Q simply because it can take more power.

As far as being cute, its hard to tell between mike and scott
