Posted May 15, 200718 yr Would the 15 work ok in a smaller than 3.0 cu ft box? The price is very right, and i have heard the SQ rivals the IDQ, but i don't know if i want to fit that large of a box. That would be nearly double the size of my 1.6 ported 12RLP. So if i went sealed i could save some space, but would that be any louder than my ported RLP? Also, would i lose SQ to the RLP?
May 16, 200718 yr why do you want to get rid of the rlp??? I wouldn't go smaller than the 3cuft. Mine are in 3cuft each and they are still a bit boomy, I may try a LARGER box, but you won't catch me going any smaller.
May 16, 200718 yr I doubt it would get louder in a sealed box over what you currently have. Killa, you might want to tune a bit lower if you find it sounding boomy, or like Denim says, add some fibreglass.
May 16, 200718 yr Author well i don't want to get rid of the RL-p, but in an intrepid, i need more displacement, and can't afford another rlp.
May 18, 200718 yr I had one in 2.5cf...tuning @ 25Hz. It did quite well. But of course 3cf would be better.
May 23, 200718 yr I see no problem placing a maw 15 in 2-2.5 cubes sealed. I had my pair in 3 cubes total and I liked it. But a bit more space would have probably made a big difference. But to be honest a ported 12" RLP will be pretty close to the output of a sealed Maw 15.
May 31, 200718 yr Author thanks for some answers everyone. I guess i should restate that i am looking to port. Does anyone else think that 2.5 cubes net would be OK for this? I just hate having the whole trunk taken up for a box!
May 31, 200718 yr My recommendation is not to stray from manufacturers specs. Perhaps part of the problem you have right now is that you are on the very small end for the Rlp as well. It will give you more in a larger box instead of being cramped in what you have. If you do the same to the Maw 15 it won't give you what you are looking for; however, if you can fit it in a larger box it sure might.

The rec. box is 1.5 cubes to low 30's, and i have mine in 1.6 cubes in low 30's. It is mostly my trunk that is the problem with tons of deadening between the trunk and the cab. Maybe i can port my trunk!
