I recently took my two 12's and put them in a prefab box built to hold two subs. Its a camaro box so it's wierd. I put them in that box because I had two single boxes for the subs and one was leaking real bad. Anyway, MY question is, how come they hit harder in the two single boxes than they do in the dual box? I think it might be because the box is too big. So is there anyway I can fix that? I seen a box another person had and he had it stuffed somewhat with newspaper? Would that help the subs hit harder in the dual box? Thanks

They were loud in the old boxes, and in the new box they're not. How do you fix that? Put them back in the old boxes! Just fix the "leaking" box with some liquid nails or other wood caulking material.

Edit: What 12"s are they? What are the dimensions of the old boxes; new box?

Definitely sounds like a box problem. I'd be neither of those choices are very good for the drivers you have. You can't just put a sub in any box and expect to sound like anything other than crap. The box needs to be made for the specific driver, of course if you had a specific box you could pick a driver as well.

Could be too big, more likely too small. How much space do you have in the boxes and what subs are they?

///M5, hate to jack the thread but, I like the M5. I almost bought one once, but just couldn't come up with the cash quick enough and I refused to make payments oh well.

I say take the subs out of the box and check for leaks. If there are any I'd personally just build a new box that matches the specs of the subs. You'll most likely be much happier with the way they sound after building one to fit them.

It's kind of like if you were to go to salvation army and pick up a pair of pants and a shirt from a bin. Now I'm around 6" and 160lbs. If I grab a x-small and a size 28/28 pants they will be too small. I will be unhappy. I would also be uncomfortable in a 4X Tee and 38x42 pants. Now if you have sub that needs a set amount of space, too little or too much can make a big difference, and as I'd be pissed off if there was a hole in the ass of my pants, so will a sub not be pleased with a hole in the box. Now put me in a custom tailored suit and I'm ready to kick ass and take names. That's how you should look at the enclosure. If you aren't comfortable tailoring a box to fit your needs, you should probably go to a shop that can help you.

I'd find out how much space you have in the box, how much your subs need, and if there is any air leaking anywhere out of the box.
