Posted June 27, 200718 yr I'm trying to decide on a set of 6.5" components for my new system. It's a daily SQ driver that I've already exceeded the budget for with the following:HU: Pioneer DEH-P5900iBComp Amp: Sundown SAX-100.4Sub: Sound Splinter RL-i8 DVC 4Sub Amp: Sundown SAE-1000DI wanted to get Focal 165-V2's, but can't find a reputable online seller (local retailers are overpriced). I settled for the 165-V1's from Sonic Electronix, but I've never heard them in person... and I think they have a similar tweeter to the 165-A1's, which sounds harsh. I've read plenty of good anecdotal evidence in favor of CDT components, but I've never heard them in person. And there seem to be a *lot* of different models to choose from. I'm leaning towards the CL-E61, CL-E61CF, or CL-62 (if they'll fit) classics. I'd like to get the best sound for under $300. Any suggestions?Thanks,-J.
June 27, 200718 yr Author The Sundown 100.4 can be used to crossover actively. Willing to do that?I'm open to anything at this point. -J.
June 27, 200718 yr Admin Scott makes a great point. If you use the 100.4 for active front stage the flood gates open as to what mid and tweet to choose.I hope to have my Mach5 MLI-65's and Seas Neo's installed here soon.
June 27, 200718 yr yummy active set-ups.... damn you m5 for convincing me to go active (lol j/k I love being partially active/ partially passive right now).
June 27, 200718 yr Author Depth available for the mid?Stupid me, I forgot to measure. I know that the mids from Polk db6500's fit in there fine. Those only need a 2" top-mount depth though. Make some recommendations, I'll measure when I get home. Thanks,-J.
June 27, 200718 yr Seas CA18RLY or RNX dependant on depth http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=789http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=823Tweeters:http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=543http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=633http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...roducts_id=1466Or, if you want to do something different for the higher frequencies...http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...;products_id=85What vehicle?

I'm not sure if a 7" woofer will fit, much less a 3" depth.Tweeters:http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=543http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=633http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...roducts_id=1466I like the 27TFFNC. This is a stupid question, but... the Sundown SAX-100.4 doesn't do 8 ohm. How would that work with a 8 ohm woofer and 4 ohm tweeter with active crossovers? What vehicle?2002 Toyota 4RunnerThanks,-J.
June 27, 200718 yr about the 8 ohm comment, the amp will run at 8 ohms. it will run more efficiently and your amp will love you for it. read this. its very good:http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31

I'm still confused about the mismatched components (with regards to ohm). I don't know anything about active crossovers, so I'm trying to envision how this works with a 8-ohm woofer and a 4-ohm tweeter wired off the same channel. I guess I should have researched the DIY stuff further before diving into this purchase. It all started so easy with Crutchfield. ;-)P.S. I wish someone would ask me about computer/networking chit, then I could feel back in my element.
June 27, 200718 yr well you have 4 channels of amplification, and you hook up the mids to 2 channels and the tweets to the other 2 and the active crossover lets you set the crossover points from those channels 1 and 2, and 3 and 4 channels. that way, ohm load doesnt matter with the active. its nothing like a passive. i hope that made sense. usually people use a separate crossover for that, but luckily the sundown has a built-in crossover.IT guy huh? the one thing about computers i still dont know much about. networking. ask me anything about hardware, i can hold my own, but with networking, i art a n00b hehe.
June 27, 200718 yr To run active, you need to run each speaker off of its own dedicated channel.100.4 = 4channels. One channel for each speaker.
June 27, 200718 yr also dont forget to keep these in mind:http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...roducts_id=8208

Not that I mind, but it hampers any rear fill plans later on (without purchasing a new/different amp). Do folks here concur that Seas are a quality choice for the front stage? I hate buying any speakers unheard, but I trust the folks here (well, some of you). ;-)IT guy huh? the one thing about computers i still dont know much about. networking. ask me anything about hardware, i can hold my own, but with networking, i art a n00b hehe.Yeah, I do a bit of everything. I'm a UNIX/Linux/BSD administrator, so I've got plenty of networking and security expertise as well (one sorta goes with the other).
June 27, 200718 yr ///M5 is the biggest Seas fan here... I haven't seen a bad review yet of any of their equipment.Rear fill? I've never used it.

June 27, 200718 yr Author Assuming the components will fit, I think I'm going to get the Seas L18RNX/P woofers with the Peerless 810921 tweeters. Anyone else running these?

My sail panel is much smaller than I thought.I'd like to order the Seas P18RNX/P and the Seas 27TAFNC/G, but I'm not sure the woofers will fit in my door. There's 27/16 " from the mounting rim to the window track. There's another 3/4 " for extension space between the mounting bracket and the door panel. At best, it would be an incredibly tight fit. At worst, it seems like the cone or surround would bang up against the panel. Thoughts?Thanks,-J.
June 28, 200718 yr Author CA18RLY = 73mm or 2.87" or so.http://www.madisound.com/catalog/PDF/seas/H1217.pdfYeah, you beat me to it. I'm looking at them now.
