  1. Thanks guys, found it, fixed it a month or 2 ago... I jsut have to act like a pilot and flip all the toggle switches on when I get in and off when i get out, havent had a problem since and since its part of my routine now, its like turning the key and rolling the windows down then hit play on the deck... few more barely noticed steps As soon as I start it the factory voltmeter jumps up past 14V every time, good to go! Still waiting on my brackets from Brackets4you, Mario, to mount the 2nd HO alt. I bet the last year was pretty hard on the 1st alternator too having to recharge them batteries up every morning

  3. " When your car battery goes dead overnight, usually either the battery is at the end of its life span, or you left something on, such as a light. Occasionally something is drawing power that’s not of your doing. This is a parasitic draw, and it can cause the same result as leaving the headlights on: a dead battery in the morning. " yes sir

The idea is, example, help me fix that dip from 60Hz-140Hz... and if you can't help, jokes are fine too... I'm full of them myself, I dishem, I takem. I always enjoy your presence, youre more kind than most
  5. Yup, I think it's worthy of a new thread. Tomorrow I have to lug this PC out into the hot muggy humidity again, cuz as if it wasn't enough that the guy made me realize I could/should get so much more out of my tweeters with his Memphis 5.25 coaxials shredding my drums, but he went to bragging that his Anarchys and/or SA pro 8's could prolly do well in the 129dB class. So for the fun of it I went out and dropped the PXA-H701's from 50Hz to 25Hz, still 30dB/oct, left the Kicker at 50Hz 12dB/oct.... cuz I keep thinking about how the REW sweeps showed a cliff dive at 125Hz peaking again at 65Hz for another dive. I can turn them up to the same volume with no clipping, no excursion issues, but it sounds even better. Sigh. Prefect, youre right, do NOT get REW! It never ever ends once you do! KW Garrett's an ASS hat.

CUBDENNO SAVES THE DAY...AGAIN! I played with the transition from Extremis to FRs for a bit, Extremis are 250Hz 24dB and FRs are 200Hz 30dB and 12dB... that allowd me to turn the Extremis higher... better and better and better! THANK YOU!

Alright, these graphs keep telling me what my ears have been since day one. Something is wrong. While researching, before purchasing, people were using a single pair of these Extremis down to 50Hz with a single pair of tweeters... 2 way... all 4 drivers off a KX650.4... 2 channels for the Extremis, 2 channels for the tweets. So With 4 Extremis covering a much smaller range, going 3-way with a midrange, and 2 850.4s just for the Extremis... I should be slaughtering the midbass... but I am NOT. I am very, very irritated right now. Well, now I am a little better, I changed everything again, but i'll get there in a minute. That huge dip from 60Hz-140Hz is there even without ANY crossover. no hp Then I tried with the slope at 50Hz, no slope, 6dB, 12, 18, 24, then 30dB slope Then I tried 24dB slope 50Hz, 56Hz,63Hz,71Hz,80Hz,90Hz,then 100Hz I left it at 24dB 100Hz volume 15, 18, then 20 I got mad, did some critical listening, I am pleased for the moment with: Tweeters SX500/2 12dB @ 16kHz Alpine 12dB @ 8kHz 850.4's 12dB @ 100Hz and Alpine 30dB @ 100Hz. So I have no Up Front Bass, but i don't care... my subs would drown them out anyway. So they are back to hitting hard and playing loud instead of sounding really awesome without subs but not as loud.

Im going to go out and run midbass sweeps... crossovers off, then 24dB alpine only steping up in increments, find out what these gaps are from

Perfect_prefect is a MOFO, thanks alot Garrett

B fell asleep early, redid crossovers as follows: Kicker 850.4s 50Hz 12dB/oct Alpine 100Hz 12dB/oct SX500/2 6dB/oct 16kHz Alpine 18dB/oct 8kHz midbass: I hate that huge valley from 55Hz to 125Hz! I tried running Kicker 50Hz 12dB and Alpine 50Hz 12dB for 24dB, but it was a huge waste...so I brought the Alpine up to 100 and brought the gains on the 850.4s up.... much much better. Dropped to 80Hz, no good. Midrange: has it's sharp fall at 400Hz as desired and the sharp fall at 8kHz as previousely measured to determine tweets crossover. Tweets: blend much much better... not as loud, not as active, but the steep slope at 8kHz was too much. a gentle slope of 6dB way up high at 16kHz softens that edge, 18dB @ 8kHz to make it solid where the midrange takes over. All 3 overlaped. volume at 5, 10, 15, and 20 I didnt like how the midbasses are basically a series of spikes. It's not a plateau that is flat at the top for a ways and rolls off nicely at both ends. I tried raising them to 500Hz to widen it a bit, snapped a shot of them by themselves but didnt save the combined responce with the midranges on... there was a huge dip just above 400Hz. pretty damn good at 55Hz but that null at 80Hz kills it

I think I will switch the Kicker back on, 50Hz 12dB, and set the Alpine the same for a total of 24dB @ 50Hz, the tweeters I will try 12dB @ 16kHz on the Kicker and 12dB @ 8kHz on the Alpine as I want the FR sloped. I can most likely raise the gains on the 850.4s a little since I could probably run them crossoverless at the levels they are at now, or leave the gains and hope adding crossover back in keeps them from getting as hot as fast?

Alright, went out to listen sum more, dropped Alpine to 20Hz... still no strain just more extention. Then put the Kickers to full pass. still no strain even more extention. Dropped the Alpine from 30dB/oct to 24dB, tweeter too as the tweet was on 30dB..all the rest 24. Brought the SX500/2 from 8.2...kHz to 8.5...kHz. So I can have the Kicker crossovers off and the Alpine all the way down at 20Hz 24dB/oct and not a hint of trouble, just sounds like I have a 10" in there. When i was done... all of 10 minutes... the Kicker 850.4 fans were in high gear. So I could leave them, but when the subs are in it will just mask them. But for comps, that would be some serious UpFrontBass. Do I just pick a number, 50Hz, 63Hz, or 80Hz... the usual points? Run some REW sweeps tomorrow and see what looks best??

front stage: in the roof facing down?

thanks guys. Age quod agis: Do what you do Ive always wanted to do an install in a truck cab... man that would be wicked!
  15. I think the biggest thing that caused my van build to sink right away was my decision to place the front stage drivers in the ceiling. Right away everyone was angered and outraged that i would put such great drivers in such a terrible location. However, my point of view is that most drivers are placed in the doors...where the seat, floor, and human body block, deflect, absorb, and tamper with the sound in every way. If the drivers are down on the floor in kicks and down in the door, they are faced up to raise the sound stage. How is that different than putting them up high and facing them down? I am sure that it does make a huge difference, so if I was out strictly to compete (I don't know if I could even enter prestigious competitions...let alone place if I were allowd) I may not have. But this was not built for SQ, nor SPL. There is no EQ, no time delay, no distance punched in. No phase alignment or flat out reversing polarity on a driver or a few. No consideration given to a baffle. Here is a picture of the closest front stage to mine as I could find, but placed in the "proper" location. 2 heavy duty tweets, 1 solid midrange, and 2 heavy duty midbasses. This guy also has 4 18's for the sub stage. To me those drivers face up a little as to point to the ear... will they sound like they come from below? They will fire into the seat and person. When I am in my spacious van, my side, arm, and leg all touch the door. If my drivers were there, I would push against them. If they were in the Kicks, my body would block them. Above my head, they are unobstrocted and the sound appears to come from strait ahead, though slightly from above. Eye level. I do not know if this vehicle was designed with SQ, staging, imaging, whatever in mind or not. The speakers in the pillar seem the best location...but don't they seem to come from the sides? Or does facing them strait in make them appear to sound like they are right in front of you not to the side? Like having them above facing strait down. Down here they shoot strait across the top of your leg and lap to your face? Do they sound like they are coming from the road? Now this is the same vehicle I have. If I had put my drivers toward the middle/bottom, the seat, floor, and I would have blocked them. If I had put them up higher, I, my body and arm, would have blocked them and pushed up against them. I always have my arm up on that shelf, windows up or down. Only open spot is the handle and switches.

front stage: in the roof facing down?

No questions Sencheezy, just me saying why I did what I did, I am very happy with it... I still hope to bring it to a comp or two someday
  17. I got so sick and tired and fed up, irritated with everyones obsession with looks, asthetics, cosmetics. It's all about the sound and cheap cheap cheap to me. I got carried away with the walmart red, silver, and gold spray paint. Brandy got me 10 cans of walmart black paint for my birthday so i could paint it all back...and I am very pleased. It is very sloppy, very cheap, but it is black sloppy, better than gold silver and red sloppy! Before: (havent painted the doors yet, may leave them red) hard to see, but the front of the false ceiling is red, and I left that too! My daughter Heather peeling gold spray painted resin from the port... I will focus more on the port later. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- after: I even used some sand paper and sanded some of the foam and caulk off the ceiling! the reflection from the doors makes the top still look red, its not except the very front by the windshield

Back to black. Low profile. Not quite stealth, but better!

cuz I am cheap I'd prefer a crappy 99c walmart spray paint job over a $300 60 hour sand/paint/wet sand/paint job but also prefer it over no paint at all :-P

I re-ran REW in the van to see how the paint affected HF dispersion and reflection as well as LF dampening and lowering vehicle resonance. I made a video of the sweep, that will be up shortly.

people always get a big laugh when they come over. I have caulk, foam, resin, paint, everything on my dishes. Glasses! Plates! On my carpet, on my floors, all of my clothes. When we go out to eat I hve to be told " grab the pants and shirt WITHOUT all that shit all over it". Brandy used to think it was funny and cute. Her first 2 months here we did the Towers mod adding bracing and more subs. She ruined 2 hoodies and a tank top on that project alone. She got me a hoody a while back and we took pics for Facebook showing her purposely putting spray paint on it while it was brand new to break it in for me. My van really is terribly ugly, especially the seats, floor, and dash. Blue paint on the carpet caulk on the linolium caulk on a glass resin on a glass spray paint in the shower caulk in the shower the seats are terrible. I hate them. It's one thing to have a few spots of blue on carpet, but yellow is terrible. But the seats and floor in the van are atrocious. A shitty terrible paint job is one thing, but this...this really does have to go! resin that wasnt mixed properly BY BRANDY that didnt fully cure, spray painted gold over it, stuck to my ass as I got in and out of the port to tweak the amps. It stuck to my clothes and seats. Resin looks like black dots and smears. Caulk is the yellow thick shit. Foam is the yellow thin stuff. Black and red spray paint. dripped resin on the dash and either foam or caulk caulk, resin, spray paint paint foam from when a can straw busted and the entire thing exploded inside, threw it outside resin painted uncured resin B got caulk on her tank foam B's hoodie. she was using the drill for the first time and got it caught!

It's been years and still most here haven't figured out take 90% of my bullshit as fun... but on some other forums some people didnt know to which was the reply: kryptonitewhite kustoms we make millions on: have I done a port shot yet? have I shown you the pass door since I fixed it? There were BRIGHT red streaks in there before: have I done a better port shot? how about a shot from INSIDE the box looking out through a subwoofer hole? how about looking through the subwoofer hole and being able to see the cool speakers?? how about a port shot from INSIDE the box? how about a port shot from INSIDE the box and you can actually see the cool speakers? how about a shot of the speakers from inside the port? drum roll please: we have been avoiding the driver side door for the big unveiling... wait for it... wait for it... waaaaaait................................

That is all I am after T-DOG! A little acceptance. I don't want everyone else to stop doin how they do and do what I do, cuz then I'd just be like everyone else. I just want to be a bit different, mix it up a little, keep a little diversity! Thank you! Thos 1st pics didnt turn out, went and took 2 more after pics, much better! Made 2 vids of HULK too, 1 short 1 long. nothing wrong with that! check out my videos and build log. very nice! I commented. Did you just have a birthday too?

    My Trunk Is Louder Than...

Very nice work, looks like you put that 4 years on the forum to good use! Awesome sub choice, even better amp, love the false floor...function and appearance... good batteries... all around great substage! I am surprised the single 15", badass as it is, SHITS on 2 HX2s... pretty nice 12's should at least keep up with the badass 15... maybe it was the overall upgrade?
