Thanks Aaron!  I used a port calculator and that was the area it spit out for box size and max power.  I'll bring it down a bit.

Also, from what I've read the Gcon will handle 1500w dynamically without issue.  Would you agree with that?  Or should I use a lower-powered amp?

The Gcon can handle over rated power.  If you want to add a little power handling, the flatwound coil will help for sure.  But that will change specs and sound a bit.

Thank you sir!  I placed an order for a 12" GCON, powering it with a 1500W amp @ 1ohm.  Box is going in the trunk of a Hyundai Elantra.  The box I came up with is a slot port with 2.5 ft3 net internal, port area of 43.75 in2 and port displacement of 1.17 ft3, tuned to 31 Hz.  Sub back, port back.  Any advice is welcome!

Heck yeah. The Port Area is a little above what I usually suggest, as you are at 17.5 square inches of port per cube, and the Gcon tends to be in the 15-15.25 per cube.

I'm using it to bi-amp my tweeters (Ch 1/2) and mids (Ch 3/4)  so I'm guessing it won't screw anything up if it's maxed out. Seems to work on boosting the lower midbass for the mids. :rockwoot:Just making sure it won't screw with my EQ setting on the HU. Thanks!

Nice, did you post install pictures?

Thank you!  I've been playing around with WinISD and SubBox for the last couple of days, and I think I've got things squared away!

Ryan beat me to it.  But yes, there is a bit of overlap when it comes to box design between the two subs.  Depending on goals and power, I can help steer you a little if you would like.

A 48V system could just be a belt starter generator that doesn't really impede on the drivetrain.

Also, the industry is really moving towards some sort of hybrid, so this will be really common moving forward.

    Sadly, you are correct.

So if they do roll off before is it going to sound bad or just not benefit from it? Right now the lpf is set at 63hz and would like a little more punch bass that you feel in the chest. Is that possible with the set up? Some people telling me I need to raise the lpf to 80 to 100hz .... the components in the front is high passed @100hz also.

It might not sound bad, but you might be missing a few notes unintentionally.  If your goal is great sound and a strong front stage, and your mids/mid-bass have to pick up a bunch of that punchy bass.  In a previous install, I ran my mid-bass down to 70hz or so, and had the sub coming in around there.  It was my best sound quality build ever, the car was deadened tremendously, and the front stage was picking up almost all of the the music, outside of the deepest of notes where there was a sealed sub in the hatch area, where overall space was fairly close to your car.

With the scions, I know they need some deadening work for sure.  If you can load up that hatch area, the doors, and a little bit of the floor under the front seats, it will go a long way to improving the performance of your system.

(side note, this topic shows why the SSA forums are still the best for this)
